Movie Reviews of Burn Notice: Season OneMovie Review: Love this show! Summary: 5 Stars
Michael is fun to watch and I love all the 'tricks of the trade' he shares with the viewers. He's the central character but I have to confess that my favorite character is Fiona! *Finally* a female character that doesn't faint at the sight of blood or run away screaming when faced with danger!
It's so good to see Sharon Gless again, she's so perfect as Michael's mother. And I absolutely loved the Cagney and Lacy reference in the second episode, that was great! She knows just how to get what she wants from everyone around her, even the criminals who occassionally come to visit her.
As far as I can tell, Sam's role is one of comic relief. He's willing to do anything for a free meal and a drink. But he does have access to extremely useful information and also Miami's rich women who apparently fall for him by the dozen.
Another favorite is Barry the money launderer, what a fun guy he is! And also the arms dealer guy, Seymour, he's just hilarious.
Michael does get very selfish and whiney sometimes but he's cute so he gets away with it. Peronally, I think Fiona could do much better for herself but he'd be lost without her.
This series keeps getting better and I look forward to watching it for many years!
Movie Review: Best summer show ever! Summary: 5 Stars
When I was growing up, Summer used to be a time for reruns, so you could play outside all night and not miss anything good. It's nice that that has changed with the advent of cable. Burn Notice is the best of all the Summer cable series I've seen, with Rescue Me being a close second. This show is so smart, funny and original! The actors are all perfectly cast and they have great chemistry together. Jeffrey Donovan, as the lead Michael Westen, really stands out. He's the perfect action star, very fit and great looking. He is a black belt, so he really knows how to fight and make it look believable. And he's really good with the comedic scenes. He and Bruce Campbell, Sam, are so funny together. Michael's voiceover narratives are always perfect. His scenes with Gabrielle Anwar as Fiona heat up the screen. And it's great that the show didn't drag out the will-they-or-won't-they have sex question. They did have sex already and they didn't sacrifice any of the chemistry.
This video set is a must-have for true fans, and my favorite part is the commentary with the four main actors and the writer/creator.
My only complaint with Burn Notice is that the season is too short! I want a full 26 episode season!
Movie Review: Super Smart and Funny Show Summary: 5 Stars
This is a don't miss show for many reasons--including multiple important characters--none of that one person on the screen all the time. Yet the male lead is not only caring, but clever and able to "MacGuyver" and improvise necessary equipment and tools. That adds so much to see inventiveness back on the tube instead of just standing around waiting for the laugh track. Additionally, the female lead LOOKS appropriate. She's an EXPERIENCED, beautiful "agent", member of the spy underground and for a blessed change--she's not some dumb bunny 19 year old. She looks strong, yet there is no fear in letting a little weariness appear on her face. She has earned it. Of course, the always hilarious and smack-on perfect comic timing expert--Bruce Campbell--is the third member of the team. Perfectly slimy, yet dependable in a pinch. This show uses the backdrop of Florida to a "T" and craft their show with good sense. These folks are not always on the right side of the "law". One of my favorite episodes was a notorious, vicious drug dealer received just desserts at the hands of the team. Instead of, once again, watching the bad guys walk away because of legal juggling. Very satisfying.
Movie Review: Not to Be Missed--Fantastic Television! Summary: 5 Stars
As others have noted already, "Burn Notice" is indeed sharp and funny (dry), with great twists and action, tight writing, and a great cast with remarkable chemistry. I tuned in because I heard Bruce Campbell was in it (Secondary character that grew through the season), and I was hooked from the first episode. I waited for it to go down hill, and it didn't. The worst episode of the season was a B/B+. My husband and I would eagerly await each new episode (no watching a couple of days later from DVR for this show), and are counting down to the second season premiere as I write this.
I love that they've turned the "fish out of water" idea on its head--the smooth operator spook dumped back in his hometown, dealing with guilt trips from his mother and scraping jobs together for a few hundred bucks while he tries to figure out why he got burned. He can confront kidnappers, murderers, and assassins with aplomb, but squirms when he gets a call on his cell from Mom :) I also love the double-oh McGyver moments--and the fact that the best "weapon" is your brain and your experience. I could go on, but so many have already given lots of details. Just go watch this show!
Movie Review: The Review Summary: 5 Stars
When this show was first being promoted, I thought it would get canceled without the first series being shown in its entirety. I thought this because the show looked weak, corny, and altogether, the kind of thing that would get canceled. I was intrigued by the show, the premise seemed quite interesting, I'm just tired of wasting my time watching tv shows, only for them to get canceled.
When I found out it got renewed, and even better, that season 1 was coming on to dvd, i got very excited, and pre-ordered the item immediately.
The first episode is pretty good, it sets things up, is very entertaining, and helps set the pace for the rest of the season. I really like this show. It is fun, sexy, and entertaining.
I must mention that this show has Bruce Campbell. Even better, Bruce is apart of about every episode, and really shines in this show. That alone should be reason enough for you to buy this show, as Bruce Campbell is the man.
I highly recommend this dvd.
