Movie Reviews of Burn After Reading

Movie Review: Another hilarious genre spoof from the Coen Brothers
Summary: 5 Stars

Films by the Brothers Coen are misanthropic, yes, but when the arrogant, avaricious, duplicitous, sex-obsessed, and downright stupid schmucks they create behave so amusingly and meet such bleak ends, I can't stop laughing. Like Fargo and Raising Arizona, Burn After Reading is full of wide-eyed fools colliding with one another and with fate in endless combinations. Spy thriller meets Laurel & Hardy and riotous misadventure ensues. Give it a try with the right attitude and a cocktail and you may find yourself ROTFLYAO!

Movie Review: WHAT WAS NOT TO LIKE?
Summary: 5 Stars

Big name stars. Brad Pitt back to his zany role. If you liked him in 12 Monkeys, here he is again. The acting was great especially Francis McDormand who never fails to please her audience. I am not a Malkovich fan, but I loved him in in this role. The lines between good guys and bad guys become blurred, as we identify and root for good people doing bad things. The relationships between the characters is over the top and adds to the comedy aspect of the film. Another great Coen film for anyone with a half a brain.

Movie Review: Burn This After Reading
Summary: 5 Stars

You either get it or you don't. I got it! In the case of a movie of such subjective personal taste I alway like to quote the late, great, immortal Elvis Presley in one of his last film performances (Easy Come, Easy Go) singing to Elsa Lanchester ( a yoga instructor in the movie) these apt and certainly deeply philosophical lyics: "Yoga is as Yoga does and there's no 'in between'. You've either got it or you've not and then you've blown the scene..." As always, Elvis said it all. Here are your matches.

Movie Review: I love this movie!
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this movie for Christmas a few years ago, and I absolutely love it. It's just so dang entertaining....and to everyone who gave this film a low rating and say it wasn't funny or was pointless...THAT'S THE POINT. It's supposed to be about a bunch of middle-aged, dumb people. It's all explained in the bonus features....and the Coen brothers wrote some of the parts specifically for the actors (Malkovich, Clooney)....they knew what they were doing when they wrote these ridiculous characters.

Movie Review: Slapstick/Black Comedy
Summary: 5 Stars

Not for all tastes, I guess based on all the disappointed reviews here, but my S-O & I really enjoyed it. Nice & light & zippy with some great send-up performances, especially from Pitt & Malkovitch.

What it is is a minor-key satire on contemporary life done in pure Coen Brothers style. I guess what people want these days is more computer-generated cartoons about chipmunks & bunnies pretending to be cute robots sweeping up a dystopian world.
