Movie Reviews of Bullitt [Blu-ray]Movie Review: A Classic Made Better By Blu-Ray & The Extras Summary: 5 Stars
"Bulitt" is undoubtedly a landmark film including three slick and impressionable ingredients of the late 60s: star power with presence, a widely imitated car chase in the hilly streets of San Francisco, and a highly stylistic approach to cinematography and music. Whether you like the movie is one thing but the aforementioned ingredients successfully make you remember it. I happen to like it. The late Steve McQueen provides the star power, the presence (largely lacking in current-day actors), and injects a sizable dose of naturalness to his acting to the stiff and contrived style common in the 60s to lend a gritty and edgy feel to the movie. It works for the movie. The now infamous car chase has been imitated in one of the last "Dirty Harry" movies and in 1995's "Jade" as well as other movies. Although the later car chases have managed to one-up the original in terms of action and camera work (due to more stable equipment), the later movies do not hold the same appeal. And as anyone can tell you, imitation is pale. Watching the opening sequence of the "Bulitt", you'll also notice a strange parallel to the updated "Oceans Eleven" in terms of musical style and even title transitions and movement. But like I said, imitation is pale.
The screenplay for "Bulitt" serves its intended purpose but it is really propelled by the good direction, acting, and the Lalo Schifrin's musical score. Watch this movie and you won't regret it. If you have a habit of watching movies multiple times, this one may grow on you. A great classic!
Movie Review: THE ASSASSINS ALMOST 'DODGE'D A BULLITT!! Summary: 5 Stars
Most people remember this film for perhaps the best (or one of the best) car chase scenes in film history with Steve McQueen (driving himself) in a Mustang Fastback chasing two gangsters in a Dodge Charger up and down the hills of San Francisco. It is memorable to be sure, but the movie, as a whole, is decent. While there is some brief but bloody violence it's not just a shoot 'em up film. Steve McQueen insisted that it be realistic and as a result you do get inside the character's heads. You experience detective work as much of it really happens, methodical with patience. Bullitt is assigned to what should be a fairly routine witness protection weekend assignment at the request of Senator Chalmers (Vaughn) who is on a crusade to clean up the mob and get credit for it - the credit is what he mostly cares about. This is his star witness and the hearings will be his stage. However, the assignment quickly goes bad and Bullitt wants to find out who leaked the location and who are the assassins. There are enough twists and turns to keep you involved and, of course, there's the car chase. Roger Ebert likes it because the role of the stoic cop Bullitt is so close to the real Steve McQueen.
Movie Review: Best Car Chase Ever !! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this DVD about a month ago. I had it on VHS but that didn't do this movie justice. So when I found out it was on Blu-ray I jumped at the chance to buy it. I am a Big Steve McQueen fan. I think this is one of his best movies. People always talk about the car chase in this movie & you will not be disappointed. Plus Steve did all of his own stunts back then. The chase scene with Steve & the bad guy on the runway was exciting as well. If you love Steve McQueen then this should be at the top of your list.
Movie Review: One of the Best Car Scene chases in Cinema(You have to wait-long Movie)Bullitt. Summary: 5 Stars
Cool movie, a little long, and you have to wait for the one of the best car chase scenes. But good Overall. I don't care much for Mustangs Or Fords or Mopars(the bad guy drives a Sinister black Dodge Charger) . It's a Good movie, and steve mcqueen does not act much, but it's good, it's street, gritty. This was in the era of GOOD COP Movies and Shows 60s-70's. Not like today. A Cinematic Masterpiece even if you wished it would had been a Corvette As the Main star not a Green Ford Mustang Fastback.
Movie Review: Bullitt on Blu-Ray is A-okay Summary: 5 Stars
If you want the best car chase ever, and the one that started it all, then look no further. Amazon has a great price on this movie, plus you get all of the extras. Now, as a car guy or gearhead I'm am a little biased. However, McQueen is at his top, the Ford sounds great and the 5.1 Dolby is done right. Also, it looks great on video with the high definition Blu-Ray format. Trust Amazon with the price, and enjoy the Fastback gearing through the twisties. It is really that great.
