Movie Reviews of Bug (Special Edition)

Movie Review: Does Not Fit Into Any One Category
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie was not what I expected. What I expected was a movie about bugs eating people....been done before but it is always a morbid treat to see it done yet again.

Instead what I got was an intense psychological thriller which is a hall of mirrors that mixes horror, drama, conspiracy, love, sex, and sci-fi.

This movie blew me away because the acting is very good and extremely intense, it doesn't go where you want it to go, and depending on YOU, the plot makes sense depending on the perspective and beliefs of the viewer.

Ashley Judd gives her best performance in a movie that is creepy, haunting, sexy, and really makes you think about "reality". It also exposes how vulnerable we are when we are "wanting". To see Ashley play a bisexual burn out and then do several nude scenes is quite a departure for her. But she is stunning...literally.

If you like "monster/horror movies" or movies that tie up all the loose ends at the end....you may be disappointed. However, if you like movies that make you think....this is that type of movie.

I loved it....

Movie Review: a true psychological thriller
Summary: 5 Stars

Oh man!!! What are these bad reviews about? Did you really watch the movie or were you in the middle of painting your house and had this on in the backround? This is an amazing story. Scarry in its own madness and maddenning in its despair. Another reviewer here said "i didn't realize that paranoia and despair were contagious". Have you missed the basic fundamentals of sociology and psychology? You become a product of your environment, that is how we work. We adapt to our surroundings; especially when those surroundings are maddenning. Anyways, this was an amazing film; i hardly blinked. There are few movies that make good adaptations from stage to film. The characters were so tightly knit with development and sadness that i wanted to weep for every one of them. Ashley judd gave, i think, the best performance of her career. Anyone with a love for story, character study, psychology, cinematography, etc. will love this movie. I got this without even reading a summary just thinking i was getting a well reviewed horror movie. I was very, very pleasantly surprised!

Movie Review: Two very damaged souls embark on a collision course
Summary: 5 Stars

Ashley's son was kidnapped in a grocery store, her slimey ex still blames her. She's working at a bar and one nite her and a friend give a strange man a ride. She lets the stranger stay on her couch, she has a soft spot for him, maybe a substitute for her missing son? He's a soldier that has gone awol. He is very intelligent, and a lot of things he says actually make sense, however, he also could be very dangerously insane. The bugs he see's everywhere, did the military implant them in his body? She starts seeing them or maybe she just wants to please him so he won't leave her, she's pretending she see's them. It's up to the viewer, where the bugs real? was the couple insane? was he insane and just took her along for the ride? The performances were excellent, the two main characters played off each other well. This movie is not for the squeamish, so be warned. Very, very intense.

Movie Review: Stellar Performance by Ashley Judd
Summary: 5 Stars

There are two reasons I no longer watch the Academy Awards. One is that Joaquin Phoenix lost for Walk the Line and the other is because Ashley Judd wasn't even nominated for Bug. Hers was a totally amazing performance. The movie creatively plagerizes the opening chapter of Philip K. Dick's novel, A Scanner Darkly, which talks about two people infested with "invisible" bugs, but then expands the premise to the Nth degree. Bug is neither science fiction nor horror, but rather a film about insanity, or, rather, going insane, though perhaps there is some horror in that. The film is shot like a stage play, but brilliantly written and definitely one of my favorite films. I liken it in a way to Phone Booth. There are not chase scenes. There are no guns. There are no getaways. It is such a shame that it now sits on shelves in near-extermination.

Movie Review: Creepy little aphid 5 Stars

Hello World!!!!Never seen so many "bugs" in my life and I use to work in a mental hospital too boot! So what chick looks good with greasy hair and a fat buttox? Who else, Ashley Judd thats who!! Mr. Exorcist and French Connection is no rookie @ how to place and set actors although Guardian sucked. Not his fault, bad script! This film won't make you 1st hand relate because you prob. dont live in these mental and social conditions, then again I dont know who in the Hell I'm typing to either. Extremely tight and precise script well executed by one of the greats, almost booklike if you will. If you like Hitch, Tar, Pol, please rent this great little story, with most likely one of the most passionate, manic, and feverish endings you've ever seen! Lots of s&%t happens in small communesFJE
