Movie Reviews of Buffy the Vampire SlayerMovie Review: Don't let the title put you off Summary: 4 Stars
I first saw this film about a year after its cinema release, while browsing through the local video rental shop. Originally, the title had put me off seeing it on the big screen, but being a lifelong horror devotee, I decided to give it a chance. Needless to say I was suitably rewarded - I loved it! The only reason it didn't get five stars was because I didn't like the moustache on the wonderful Rutger Hauer. This film is highly under-rated, and you need it in your collection. Buy it today!Incidentally, I put off seeing the T.V. series, when it was first screened because I thought that it wouldn't be able to compete with the film. How wrong I was. Again! Thank heaven for repeats.
Movie Review: A second watching improved it Summary: 4 Stars
I really hated this movie when I saw it in the theatre. I couldn't see what Donald Sutherland was doing here, and why he was overacting so badly, or what made Kristie Swanson abandon the sweet teenager she was in Ferris Beuller. Watching the disc with the kids over popcorn made me see it in a different light. It really does explore the crazy priorities of the modern teen, even in the face of the really big issues, i.e., good vs. evil. There is something adorable about Buffy, and even if it is not great acting, it is still mindless fun. It did spawn (no pun intended) the enormously popular TV series, so they must have done something right. It took a while but I can see it, too.
Movie Review: Not Better or Worse than the TV Series, Just Different Summary: 4 Stars
Whether or not you like this movie better than the series depends on which one you saw first. In approximately 90 minutes, there isn't time to go into the depth of character development and backstory allowed in a long-running series. I started watching the movie long before it was a TV series, but I see the value in both the movie and the show. It may not be the best film ever made, but it's still a nice diversion. For the fans of the show, just live with the fact that this movie inspired the show you love so much. On the plus side, the movie doesn't have all of the weird creatures that continually show up on the series.
Movie Review: I like it! Summary: 4 Stars
I have had this movie for years and just watched it again last Sunday. I think its funny and campy the way it is supposed to be. Sure it doesn't compare to the TV show but its still fun. I love Kristy Swanson. She was the perfect answer to the 80's backlash. She wouldn't have worked in the more serious TV show (besides I could never live without Sarah Michelle's portrayal) but I adore her none the less. And surprisngly, Buffy and Pike (Luke Perry) were wonderful together. I want to see more Buffy stuff. BUFFY FOREVER!
Movie Review: Great Watch Summary: 4 Stars
I thought this film was fantastic! apart from the vampires, I thought they were very unrealistic! you could tell they were vampires whereas in the series and a million other things with vampires in it the vampires go out and people can't tell that they are vampires! Apart from that little hiccup I thought overall the film was great, the action, the guy (Luke Perry)and I thought that Kristy Swanson was goos as Buffy although not quite as good as Sarah Michelle Gellar!
