Movie Reviews of Brother Sun, Sister Moon (Widescreen)Movie Review: A different approach Summary: 5 Stars
I finally got my own copy of this great film! I first saw it about 25 years ago and loved it then, and I still do. A war changes a young man's perception of life and makes him give up all earthly riches to instead enjoy the natural beauties of life. And there are plenty of those in this film! Wonderful nature scenes, lovely music, combined with the simplicity and wisdom of a man who lives what he believes instead of just talking about it. It never fails to lift me and to remind me of what really counts in life.
Movie Review: One of the few truly inspiring movies, and I'm not even a Christian. Summary: 5 Stars
This movie really brings back the sixties--in the best sense. Back then we were on course toward a more caring, less conformist and corporate society. What happened? The movie plays just a little loose with the facts. In reality there was no tension between Francis and the Bishop of Asisi. Bishop Guido actually championed Francis. Oh, well, what's a movie wihout the obligatory murder? Anyhow, the casting is perfect, the camera work is beautiful, the songs are great. Inspiration awaits you.
Movie Review: Touches the soul Summary: 5 Stars
The movie Brother Sun, Sister Moon, is a fantastic film. Set in Crusade-era Italy, this film recounts the amazing life of Francis of Assisi. A boy who went off to a war in a far-away land comes home bruised in mind, body, and soul, but discovers the true value of life, love, and faith. Overall, the movie is a masterfully directed and artistically rendered cinematic treasure, with a powerful yet subtle musical score which will warm the heart and soul of any person who watches it.
Movie Review: Spirit of Francis Summary: 5 Stars
This movie was a major inspiration in my life as a Franciscan. It captures the spirit of Francis of Assisi, the joy, the freedom, the devotion to Christ. It is true that it is "ahistorical" which is NOT to say unhistorical, but rather creative fidelity to the spirit of the saint. All of Zeferelli's work has a quality of caricature, but faithful even though exaggerated. Many people have used those songs by Donavan as well, as they are quite moving and joyous.
Movie Review: Tom Keogh "don't know from nothing" Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent film combining "on-the-money" casting, heartfelt performances, glorious cinematography, and a profound message. It was a MAJOR factor in my conversion to the Roman Catholic Faith in the early 1970s, as it led me to learn more about the Church that I now know to be the One Church that contains the fullness of Christian Truth. I would recommend disregarding any and all of Tom Keogh's film reviews, as all of his taste seems to be in his mouth.
