Movie Review: Real Christianity
Summary: 5 Stars

This film in my opinion, is the best Christian film ever made.
Technically is falls short in many areas. But as far as true spiritual heart is concerned, it cant be beat.
I believe it comes the closest to revealing the true nature of Christianity.
It shows us that Christianity is really about love and humility and not about religion or politics or bible bashing - Not about the hates and arrogances and judgments of the current church today. St. Francis was one of the few Christians who doesn't make us ashamed to be associated with this religion. And Zephirelli does a beautiful job capturing his Spirit - as well as the true Spirit of Christ.
While some of it may feel dated or trite, the depth is there for those who can and wish to 'see' it.
I wish the right wing born again Christians of today would absorb some of what this film has to give. The world would be better off for it.

Movie Review: Where can I get the soundtrack?
Summary: 5 Stars

Enough people have already debated the pros and cons of this movie here, so I won't go into detail about historical accuracy or cinematography or whatever -- for that, read the other reviews. What I will say is that, as a non-Catholic, non-Christian viewer, I found the movie to be an inspiring portrayal of a saintly man whose life I happen to admire. And I thoroughly disagree with the official Amazon reviewer's negative take on the music. I love Donovan's rendition of "Brother Sun and Sister Moon." As a peace activist, I often find myself humming "Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace" -- so nu, WHERE can I get the soundtrack? I have searched on every "best of" Donovan album already released and NONE of the songs from this movie are ever included. If you have found a soundtrack CD, please email me at gershom613@yahoo.com and tell me where to get it!

Movie Review: Reawakening Simple Joy
Summary: 5 Stars

The poor reviewer from the Bronx has forgotten the optimism of youth. This movie does not. This movie perfectly captures the saying by a saint, "Oh let me feel the tears of a newly awakened saint..." This movie captures the very beginning of Francis' journey and does not show the hardships he faced as the years flew by. To be sure despite the hardships he did not regret his decision. According to legend he did go see the Sultan in Jerusalem to convert him. The story continues that the Sultan treated him well and said, "If all Christians were like you perhaps I would convert." Then he let him go freely. This movie awakens my heart each time I see it and brings joy. Dated or not it is something Zefferelli should be immensely proud of.
I suggest the reviewer from the Bronx should get out of the city for an afternoon and spend it in a field of poppies.

Movie Review: Brother Zefferelli
Summary: 5 Stars

As Francis had to contend against the establishment of his day, so did this film against the critics in ours. Donovan studied medaeval and renaissance music in order to write the songs, and since the film's first screening people have been trying to get the soundtrack. But it was never released because the three companies involved with the film fought over it, none of them following the way of Francis. As critics have shown themselves completely out of step with audiences as regards The Passion, so they did also with this film, which ranks second only to Romeo and Juliet as Zefferelli's masterpiece. Everyone else who sees this film falls in love with it. Zefferelli portrays the legend of St. Francis and the aura of his life with such lavish wonder that he can still awaken us to see anew, with Francis and Claire, Brother Sun and Sister Moon.

Movie Review: BROTHER SUN, SISTER MOON.

THIS IS THE BEST EXPERIENCE ONE WILL EVER HAVE IN A TRULY MAGNIFISCENT MOVIE IN ALL ASPECTS e.g. CINEMATOGRAPHY, PRODUCTION,ITALIAN SCENERY AND WONDERFUL ACTING BY ALL WITH THE ADDED ATTRACTION OF SIR ALEC GUINESS AS POPE BENEDICT III.
I SAW THIS MOVIE IN 1972 AND COULD NOT WAIT TO GET IT ON VHS FORM SO I COULD TREASURE IT FOREVER....AND BRAVO TO AMAZON FOR INCLUDING IT IN THEIR LARGE COLLECTION OF OLD TITLES, SO THAT I CAN ENJOY IT IN GLORIOUS COLOUR AND BETTER DEFINITION.
IT THE STORY OF A YOUNG ST.FRANCIS OF ASSISI, RENOUNCING HIS FAMILY RICHES TO SEEK HIS OWN DESTINY. THIS MOVIE IS AN UNCOMMONLY REWARDING FILM EXPERIENCE AND WAS AN ACADEMY NOMINATED FILM CO-SCRIPTED BY LINA WERTMULLER AND FRANCO ZEFFIRELLI....A MOST TRULY WONDROUS EXPERIENCE BY ALL WHO CHOOSE TO PURCHASE THIS TITLE.
