Movie Reviews of Broken WingsMovie Review: Excellent. Summary: 5 Stars
Its in Hebrew with English subtitles.
Now that I have either your attention or dismission, let me begin.
Nir Bergman directed this raw and touching film that crosses borders and languages with its relatability. The story could have taken place in any U.S. city, and probably has. The actors were great, particularly Orly Silbersatz Banai who played Dafna Ulman the mother, and Maya Maron who played Maya Ulman the daughter. (Who reminded me of Erin "Pixie" Cummins so much for some reason...) It's the tale of a widowed family and the hardships they encounter because of it. It's about strength and responsibility and understanding and forgiveness. It's about independence and family. It's about moving on when you need to and holding on when you should.
It is an excellent film and a must see.
Movie Review: A good movie Summary: 5 Stars
This is a good movie. The story of a family 's struggling to go on after the father has been killed gives a close- up look at Israeli 'shechunah' neighborhood life. The characters are believable and likeable even as they struggle in their odd ways to survive. The caretaking sister, and the dreaming weak brother who does risky things just to prove himself, are placed in a very realistic setting and background. I did not especially like or understand the ending which seemed to me somewhat forced and melodramatic.
But on the whole this was one of the finer Israeli films I have seen.
Movie Review: Mended Wings Summary: 5 Stars
At first the movie did not hook me, but as it went on I found the lead actress engaging. By the end of the movie I was completely in love with her. Her performance was as captivating as Keisha Castle in Whale rider or Audrey Tatou in Amelie.
What I enjoyed about the performances of all the actors is how effortlessly they completed their roles. This made the movie feel extremely real. Near the end the emotions held in check come cascading down and then finishes with a poignant uplifting ending. This special movie is a quiet gem and worth every minute of your time.
Movie Review: FANTASTIC! Summary: 5 Stars
knafayim shuvrot was the first foreign film I had bought,it looked good to me so I took a chance on it,when I got it home,I had a look at the menu, where maya is singing animated movies in the background,I was in tears by the end,the film itself has wonderful acting particularly from maya maron who plays the role of maya, broken wings changed the way I view things and it opened my eyes to a vaster range of film content,I suggest this film to anyone.
Movie Review: Living through a death Summary: 5 Stars
This film offers the genuine raw emotion and family dysfunction that results from the death of a teenagers' father, but also the healing that comes with family reconciliation and the kids' gradual maturation. This film is a triumph of art, depicting as it does so accurately, the triumph of the human soul over tragic events that individuals cannot control, but by joining forces with the family unit, in love.
