Movie Reviews of Broken BridgesMovie Review: Broken but healing -- the power of music Summary: 5 Stars
We hunkered down on a freezing Alaska evening with our two Greenland Huskies to watch this movie, and were warmed by the characters, flawed as some were at the start.
Tobey Keith is quietly effective as a man who deserted his pregnant wife, and now has an opportunity to try and reconcile years later.
He does a great job of trying, with a quiet dignity and lots of caring.
The real highlights revolve around music. His teenage daughter(upcoming star Lindsey Haun) has inherited his musical talent. He and his daughter sing and pick with Willie Nelson. Then in the best scene in the movie, father and daughter blend their punk rock and country backgrounds to compose a song that warms even the most hard-hearted members of the family, including the always somber father and grandfather, Burt Reynolds.
Gosh Burt, you've come a long way from the pure fun days of Smoky and the Bandit! Your single smile at the end was very welcome to your family, and your fans.
Check out this movie, and enjoy it with your family.
Movie Review: What a Surprise! Summary: 5 Stars
I rented this one on a whim, and since I like Toby Keith, I figured at least the music would be good. What a surprise! The story is good, moving, and holds water. Toby is not bad at all as a father who has spent his life regretting his 'scared kid' decision to abandon his pregnant girlfriend. The girlfriend, Kelly Preston, hits just the right note as a daughter who never felt welcome enough to come back home, but worked hard to make a life for herself and her teenage daughter, Dixie. Lindsey Haun is just great as the kid. She's feisty and opinionated, but has been raised with manners and a healthy respect for her mom. Burt Reynolds does a great job as the grandfather who is stern and unrelenting in his disgust over his daughter running off and having her baby.
This movie was very well done and the music was good too. It evokes more of an emotional response than you would expect from something like this. We all loved it.
Movie Review: Great in every way...cast, music, story, heartwarming! Summary: 5 Stars
I had purchased the soundtrack first, as well as watching the movie MANY, MANY times on CMT before my DVD arrived. It is addicting, perhaps because it really hits home... a story of real broken bridges that CAN be healed with time and the right effort. I've seen this movie more times already than any other in my lifetime (and I've been watching Sound of Music for YEARS!; it's that good. And I will continue to watch it over and over now that the DVD is "in hand." Toby can be rightfully proud of his movie debut; he performed like the pro he is. The cast meshed very well, and Lindsay ties it all together with "Broken," which is fast becoming one of my all-time favorite songs! Great Job done by ALL!! If you haven't bought this, BUY IT NOW... to quote Toby on the commercial, "You'll love it!" I know I do.
Movie Review: Toby sure can pick 'em can't he ??? Summary: 5 Stars
Toby Keith's first foray into acting is an unqualified success. With a great story and a great cast of actors, Toby couldn't miss on this one. CMT must have been smiling from ear to ear when this premiered. A superstar doing a movie.... and it's good too ??? Toby admittedly, played it close to home, as a country music star, playing a country music star, but it's written so well I didn't care. Kelly Preston is, as always, a solid, steady quality actress, who is easily likable in any role she chooses to play. Lindsey Haun is a find. Cute, talented and believable as the daughter not too happy with her family situation. Burt Reynolds is still an actor with star power, although this isn't a big role for him.
All in all I was very pleased with this movie, give it a chance and I think you will be too.
Movie Review: Very Well Done! Summary: 5 Stars
Toby did a really great job in this movie; not like some other country singers. He was actually a great actor!
A woman, Angela, goes back to her hometown with her daughter, Dixie, because Angela's brother is killed in an explosion. There she sees her ex-boyfriend, Bo Price (Toby Keith); he was there because his brother died also. As Dixie gets to know her grandparents and father, she begins to like it in her mother's hometown and she enjoys writing songs with her father. There are problems with the family, but the movie has a great ending.
This movie was predictable, but enjoyable and moving.
