Movie Reviews of Broken Arrow

Movie Review: Classic western story of war and peace
Summary: 5 Stars

This film is one of the first westerns that was sympathetic to the Indians' point of view and details the struggle for peace in the southwest that neither the Apaches or the whites welcomed. The movie explores the friendship between Tom Jeffords and Cochise, with several fine action scenes and a touching romantic angle added, accompanied by a good music score and filmed in brilliant technicolor. James Stewart and Jeff Chandler head an excellent cast that brings to life Elliott Arnold's classic work, "Blood Brother". The westerns that Stewart made with director Anthony Mann are the films that are best remembered today by movie buffs but "Broken Arrow" is at the top as one of the most influential westerns ever made.

Movie Review: Claasic Western
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw the movie as a boy and remembered it well. Jimmy Stewart was wonderful as an ex=Union officer who made very little money mining gold in Apache country. He had no problem killing Indians to defend himself or others, ut did not subscribe to "the only good Indian is a dead Imdian theory" and saved the life of an Apache boy, earning the gratitude of the great chief, Cochise, who was played by Jeff Chandler. Stewart falls in love with an Apache maiden, played by Debra Paget. The plot devolves into a war between the Apaches and the white settlers; the army is brought in and I will not spoil the conclusion. The movie is nearly 60 years old now, has beautifu photography and wondrful actors.

Movie Review: Broken Arrow--A Golden Oldie
Summary: 5 Stars

I just want to say that I am very pleased with this DVD. The picture and sound quality was excellent, and for anyone seeking wholesome family entertainment with a Western accent these days, this is an excellent choice. James Stewart's portrayal of Tom Jeffords is outstanding, as is Jeff Chandler's as Cochise. I doubt, though, that the real Cochise had blue eyes! Considering that this movie was made in 1950, it was definitely ahead of its time in its very fair treatment of Native Americans as human beings rather than as brutish savages. There are some nice bits of information on Apache social customs, too. Kudos to Amazon for offering such a great product at a reasonable price.

Movie Review: Great Movie
Summary: 5 Stars

Broken Arrow was a great western. The quality of the DVD is very good, sharp and colorful, the sound was clear. James Stewart and Debra Paget were great. I really enjoyed this movie. It's the kind that you will want to watch again! I don't want to give away the ending. I just wish that it was a happy ending. Why do they always make sad endings? Isn't life sad enough? That's why we watch movies, for the happy ending!

Movie Review: One of my favorites
Summary: 5 Stars

Yellow Butterfly

This is one of my favorite movies in the Western genre. Of course, James Stewart, along with Gary Cooper, is one of my all time favorite actors. I was deeply moved and impressed by this movie when I was a child. I've never forgotten it. It is definitely a movie to keep and watch over and over.
