Movie Reviews of Broadway Melody of 1940Movie Review: The only teaming of the King and Queen of Tap! Summary: 5 Stars
One of the last, big B&W musical extravaganzas, BROADWAY MELODY OF 1940 is a joy from start to finish. The incomparable Fred Astaire and the unforgettable Eleanor Powell only made this one film together, but it's one for the ages! Terrific tunes by Cole Porter make up a nifty score, which comes to a thrilling conclusion featuring Fred & Eleanor's amazing BEGIN THE BEGUINE. A must-have for film musical fans!
Movie Review: if you have a tapper at home; don't miss this movie Summary: 5 Stars
Right after watching this, my wife and I called our (now) 14 yo dancer in to see it. She in turn had her dance buddies watch it the next time they were over. The look of amazement on ALL of our faces as we watched some of the best there ever was worth the price of admission. Like the commercial says; DVD player; $200, DVD; $15, Watching your daughter work ten times harder on her tapping-priceless.
Movie Review: Fred and Eleanor Triumphant! Summary: 5 Stars
A gem of a film for all afficianados of the genre. An absolute must for all aspiring tap-dancers. Delightful to slow down the dance sequences to attempt to learn a step or two. Of course, Mr. Astaire is known to all, and Ms. Powell still remains the Queen of Tap, and should be equally known to modern audiences, if there were any justice in the world!
A glorious, glorious experience.
Movie Review: Absolutely Amazing!! Summary: 5 Stars
This film contains some absolutely amazing tap dancing sequences. My grandfather used to speak of Eleanor Powell with reverence. He said that her upper body remained still and her feet went a million miles a minute. She never missed a beat. After seeing this movie I have to agree.
Of course Fred Astaire is his usual "magnificent dancer" self.
Movie Review: A Classic Summary: 5 Stars
This movie is now 68 years old.
The last dance sequence with Fred Astaire and
Eleanor Powell would probably be one of the
greatest dances of all time.
Even Frank Sinatra in "That's Entertainment"
said "you will never see the likes of this
again"
Watch it again and again and I'm sure
you'll agree.
