Movie Reviews of BrigadoonMovie Review: Almost Like Being in Love Summary: 5 Stars
The reason I saw this is because I am a huge Gene Kelly fan and I love Cyd Charisse as well! This isn't the greatest MGM musical but it was one of the last ones from the "Golden Age" that make this movie very special. The movie is about two hunters named Tommy(Gene Kelly) and Jeff (Van Johnson) who are in Scotland. While they are lost they stumble into this little village that isn't on their map. The village happens to be Brigadoon and it happens to wake up for one day every one hundred years. Tommy starts to fall in love with Fiona (Cyd Charisse) but Fiona can't leave the village if she does the town will disappear forever. This movie has a lot of great music my favorites are "Heather on the Hill", "Waitin' for My Dearie", "I'll Go Home With Bonnie Jean", and "Almost Like Being in Love." This is really one the last great musicals! This a must see movie! I am very happy that Warner Bros. re-released this on DVD with good extras!

Movie Review: "I'll go home with beautiful Jean" Summary: 5 Stars
In mid-18 th century, Highlands of Scotland, Rev. Mr. Forsythe decided that they village of Brigadoon was being unduly influences by witches and the outside world to he asked for a miracle that was granted and The village only appears one day once every hundred years.
It just so happens that on this very day two hunters from New York were lost in the Highlands Tommy Albright (Gene Kelly) and Jeff Douglas (Van Johnson). There Tommy meets and falls in love with a girl (Cyd Charisse), but does she really exist?
Things get a bit complicated and Tommy has a lot to think about while Jeff under the influence of alcohol may have shot more than a bird.
Ones man's miracle can be another man's curse.
An often overlooked musical, the music and songs of Lerner and Loewe, which is a product of its time. This movie does not pretend to be anything but a movie version of the stage production directed by Vincente Minnelli, with Jan Johnson and Gene Kelly at their best. I have seen several liver productions and this is one of those rare occasions in which the movie is superior. A must for any collection.

Movie Review: Classic, Charming: Must-have for Gene Kelly fans!! Summary: 5 Stars
Brigadoon was the first Gene Kelly movie I had ever seen. It was 7th grade Choir, and our instructor decided we would spend 2 days watching Brigadoon. As any typical teen, I wasn't thrilled at the prospect of watching some 'old movie'. Was I wrong. This movie grabbed my attention in a way I never knew possible. It opened up my mind to a whole new world of classic cinema and song and I will forever be greatful to Mr. Baklin for showing it to us! I have since, probably watched this move a hundred times. The sad thing, is that Gene viewed it as a disappointment because it was to actually have been filmed in Scotland and was eventually decided upon by execs to save budget and use a sound stage! This does not, in any way, take away from the feel of the film. Gene and Van Johnson are wonderful as friends with opposite opinions on everything, who actually complement each other. The chemistry between Gene and Cyd is electric...you don't see attraction like this in movies anymore. It's sweet, simple and perfect. The scene with an amourous sheep herder trying to snag Van Johnson for her husband is one of my favorites! Whether you purchase it, borrow it from a friend, or check it out at the library(mine has it on both DVD and VHS), It is definitely a must-see Gene Kelly movie.
Movie Review: I wonder Summary: 5 Stars
I wonder why the beautiful Lerner-Loewe meoldies and lyrics and the movie itself are not more popular than they are - I'll go home with Bonnie Jean, The heather on the Hill, Almost like being in love. The movie itself is a serious production, meticulous in costumes, design and choreography.
This is a fairy tale, almost a charming ghost story, which is so unreal that it only happens in old places like the Scottish highland. Something beautiful that emerges beneath the fog only once in a while.
The story is also rich in Scottish culture - bagpipes, kilts, market place and folklore.
I also wonder why Van Johnson, with a big build and yet such a nimble tap dancer, did not have more dancing roles in other movies. And Cyd Charisse ballet dancing is simply an eye candy.
The melodies are so sweet and chorus so pure that the movie is worth watching over and over again, even if it is only for the songs.
Movie Review: No wonder you'll always come back to that place Summary: 5 Stars
When I first saw the M-G-M movie BRIGADOON, I was greatly touched. Though I'm going backwards, I will have to say that the touching ending almost made me cry tears of happiness. Gene Kelly played so very well Tommy, a kind American so much in love with Fiona, the prettiest lady in Brigadoon. And as it has been proven in other movies, Kelly was so unusually talented at dancing. Van Johnson was very adept at making the viewing public laugh at the "pleasant" drunk. And the beautiful Cyd Charisse! Why wouldn't the love-sick Tommy want to return to Brigadoon?!Cyd Charisse was at the pinnacle of success in her acting career in this movie: none of her other parts ever even approached her charm and acting ability as did the part of the lovely Scottish lady. The capabilities of Lerner and Lowe were heard loud and clear. All in all, it was an enchanting movie.
