Movie Reviews of Bride of Re-AnimatorMovie Review: Budget Edition( Read: Minimal Extras) Summary: 5 Stars
Whilst this DVD looks like it is a direct transfer from a Vestron Video tape, with new credits for some of the recent companies( Vestron went bust, I heard), the DVD is a decent watch, and has everything I loved and vaguely remember.
Unless there is something done in the recovered edition that I am unaware of for REANIMATOR, West is NOT killed, and Megan Halsey is not saved ... Megan most definitely dies, and she may be reanimated, but then it is conceivable that someone had dismembered her in death if her reanimation was partial( especially since Megan's heart is separated, but it may be a convenient plot point, however... WHO CARES ?? ). What is really aggravating about this budget disc, is that the extras are clearly available, but if you check out the other disc reference for BRIDE OF, the prices are outrageous ... especially when REANIMATOR MILLENNIUM EDITION has a bundle of goodies with it, and is virtually the same or comparable price as the minimalist BRIDE OF REANIMATOR.
The FX are great. Screaming Mad George, and the other FX people do a superb job, even with the over the top Bat winged head of Dr Hill . The elements are virtually seemless.
For the nature of the story, it is quite a decent piece of work.
At worst it is a very fun popcorn film, at best, it is a fun horror-comedy that has "Dr West" spouting many dead-pan and funny lines that totally work with an actor like Jeffrey Coombs.
The So-called Nudity is extremely minimal; the gore is not excessive, and is always in context ( what do you expect when an arterial line is severed????), and basically it works.
It's not as good as the original, nor BEYOND, but it is a great fun piece... or pieces, and dare I say, a cut above the rest that gets under your skin :-)
Movie Review: Bride of Re-Animator Summary: 5 Stars
Just as James Wales' BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN managed to surpass his own Gothic masterpiece, Brian Yuzna's BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR also manages to outdo Stuart Gordon's original in many ways. Picking up only a few years after the disaster in the Miskatonic University morgue, BRIDE finds Dr. Herbert West and Dan Cain returning to their questionable practice of re-animating the dead as they attempt to build the perfect being out of choice pieces of flesh that they have 'borrowed' from Arkham cemetery. Dr. Cain professes a selfless desire to help heal the wounded with the fruits of their research, but unlike Dr. West (who quite openly admits to his own selfish desires), Cain secretly hopes to revive the heart and brain of his dead girlfriend within the body of their new pet project. Jeffrey Combs and Bruce Abbott continue to create a perfect synergy on screen, though their performances are a bit more reserved than before. David Gale also returns as the bodiless head of Dr. Hill, who has plenty of new torments to unleash upon his enemies. In addition to a substantial amount of gore, Yuzna injects the film with the same deliciously dark humor that lined Paoli's earlier script. The creative geniuses at KNB EFX Group also introduce a massive array of imaginative designs that are as hilarious and ironic as they are disturbing. BRIDE is very much the twisted take on BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN that it intends to be, and in all of its absurdity it proves to be a winning sequel that recaptures much of the brilliance found in the original film.

Movie Review: Perfect sequel. Summary: 5 Stars
Herbert West (Jeff Comb's) and Dr. Dan Cain (Bruce Abbot) are back and up to their old trick's, but not only can they resurrect the can creat new life!!!!!!! Bwhahahahahahahh!!!!!
What I really love about this sequel is that it has more of a 'Frankenstein' vibe, because it does'nt take place at a medical school like the original film, it take's place Herbert West's own lab (right next to a Yeah that's right, a Ton's of special effect's on display here. It start's off with them re-animating their own little "pet's". It has some really great stop-motion animation (some of the best I've seen) and plenty of gore, nudity, zombie's, dismemberment, perversion, and disembowelment to please any gorehound.
This is horror/comedy done right, and while this has a little more comedy than the original film, it has a great sense of humor with a slap-stick vibe, and is extremely funny.
This is an awesome sequel to an already perfect movie. I loved every minute of it, and nearly had an orgasm watching it. The original Re-Animater is one of my favorite flick's of all time and even though this is not directed by Stuart Gordon, Brian Yuzna does a great job and is a very underrated director. HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!
Movie Review: Great movie, but Artisan fails on another DVD re-release Summary: 5 Stars
Bride Of Re-animator was previously released on DVD by Pioneer/Artisan as a Special Edition which was far superior to this bare bones DVD reissue from Artisan. The special edition offered two versions of the film (Rated R and Unrated). It had a full-length commentary by the director, cast, the special effects guys, etc. It also offered a deleted scene and a blooper/outtake/behind-the-scenes reel which are both absent on this reissue. Another thing it had were many still galleries, promotional materials, production notes...and more.I have indeed seen the movie transfer on this reissued DVD, and it looks like the same transfer on the previous DVD release. If you don't care for special features, or can't get the older DVD...then, and only then, is it a good buy for the movie itself! Artisan must be really lazy these days. They'd had no special features on any of their recent DVD releases of older Horror and Sci-Fi flicks. Not even a theatrical trailer! It's almost as if they could care less because they know the product will sell anyways. So, you may ask...why am I giving this a 5 star rating? For the movie itself...surely not for this featureless DVD! The only thing good about this reissue is that it has the original movie artwork on the cover, even though the old DVD "neon" artwork looked much cooler.
Movie Review: Love That Lovecraft Summary: 5 Stars
Howard P. Lovecraft was a writer of horror fiction that not everyone has a taste for. Those who do enjoy his stories, though, admit that some of his better stories have been made into mediocre films (such as The Dunwich Horror). However, the reverrse is also true, and his short story, "Herbert West -- The Reanimator!", was one such. The story is relatively dull, but the film it eventually spawned is gory, but a lot of fun, with Jeffrey Combs making a perfect Herbert West. The film led to a sequel, which is "Bride."
The sequel carries on the saga of Herbert West, who has developed a serum that can reanimate corpses and their parts. The unfortunate death of a young woman doesn't deter Herbert West -- he decudes to rebuild her from various body parts that he sticks together and uses his reanimation serum on. This is, of course, complicated by the return of a nemesis from the previous film, an academic who wants to plagiarize West's work and present it as his own (notwithstanding that his reanimated head has been decapitated).
The film is characterized as a horror film, but it's as much comedic as gory. Not for every taste, but a lot of fun. For best appreciation, its predecessor should be viewed first.
