Movie Reviews of Breakheart PassMovie Review: Very Good Action Flick Summary: 4 Stars
I first watched this film in the late 70s on television and found it to be an very watchable action flick. Whenever I spotted this movie while surfing cable, I would stop and watch it to it's conclusion. In short, it is about a military train transporting medical supplies to a fort. While stopped for fueling, a criminal (Bronson) is captured and taken aboard the train as a federal prisoner until he can be tried. As might be expected, the train's mission and Bronson's true intentions are not what they appear to be. The pace of the movie is quick and entertaining. The DVD's only extra is the original movie trailer which has undergone no touchup. The video quality of the movie is what I would call a very good VHS transfer. The same can be said of the sound. Considering the purchase price, I guess you could not expect the best transfer to DVD. Even with those deficiencies, I am glad I purchased the movie. It is a very good action movie that continues to entertain.
Movie Review: Choo Choo Bang Bang Summary: 4 Stars
For those of you who are fond of trains, especially train mysteries ala "Murder on the Orient Express" and Charles Bronson movies when he was still making fairly good ones, this will be a reasonably satisfying trip. Better than the original book, although the screenplay is by MacLean himself, it's a jog along the rails with a cast of suspicious characters played by top flight supporting actors who are nearly all casting narrow eyed, side long glances at each other. Bronson is a stolid hero who's pitied by blonde goddess, Jill Ireland, his wife in real world. There are some signs of only medium budget film making: the filmed backgrounds when the train is moving sometimes, the choppy editing here and there, but overall, this is a sit back with potato chips and Dr. Pepper and just enjoy the ride type flick.
Movie Review: MacLean takes a shot at a western Summary: 4 Stars
Novelist Alistair MacLean, whose normal area of expertise is World War II thrillers such as "Where Eagles Dare" and "The Guns of Navarone", took a break from his wartime suspense novels to write an American western.
Here Charles Bronson plays a mysterious man held captive on board a train rolling through the bleak winter wilderness towards Breakheart Pass. Accused of a crime, all is not as it seems for Bronson's character Deacon, is he really a criminal or an undercover agent? With gun runners, government agents, deceitful officials and Indians, this action thriller really thrills and one could do worse than watch this on a rainy afternoon.
Highly recommended.
Movie Review: One of the Best! Summary: 4 Stars
I thought this movie is one of the best westerns of all time. It has a great cast full of lots of familiar faces. It is more of a 'who done it' murder mystery ala Murder on the Orient Express but set in a western theme. Bronson plays a mysterious passanger who is not what he seems. Good to see Ben Johnson, Richard Crenna and also the ol' Mongoose Archie Moore along with Vikings football great Joe Kapp.
This is just a fun, very intelligent action movie that delivers in many ways.
Movie Review: There `s a lot of action Summary: 4 Stars
A sharp script conforms a stupendous Western thriller when a mysterious prisoner who hates any kind of violence is carried I a train with other intriguing characters. Some unnatural deaths occur and an unexpected gun shot will make you to pay full attention in this curious but smart movie.
Passable picture., but never a classic.
