Movie Reviews of Brazil

Movie Review: Insane . . . in a good way
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is unbelievable. This movie has what is, quite possibly, the coolest visual style ever. It is very strange and you can't stop watching . . . you really have to see it. It is at the same time dark and oppressive and also bright and extravagant.

Brazil is one of those movies that you can watch over and over again and never get tired of it. There's really not a whole lot else to say. The basic story is a man feels trapped in an oppresive future society until he discovers love and gets involved with some radical terrorists. That's the story at it's most basic. See Brazil - now!

Movie Review: Terry GilliamĀ's Masterpiece
Summary: 5 Stars

For those who cannot buy the Criterion Edition this one is perfect, with the theatrical trailer, production notes and
the widescreen version of the film as special features, it's amazing.

Just the emotion of watching Brazil again and again and again and again, the experience of watching it on dvd is pretty good.

This one is Terry Gilliam's Masterpiece.
For fans I strongly reccomend the Criterion edition.
With the " Love Conquers All Version", The Battle of Brazil and What's Brazil? doccumentaries, Terry Gilliam's stroyboards and much, much more.

Movie Review: The best comedy in the eighties
Summary: 5 Stars

Gilliam built a cult movie in the great sense of the word.
His imaginative script turns around the burocracy and the desperation of people who lives with invisible chains in a oppresive world that controls each detail of your private life.
Pryce falls in love with a outsider girl, who eventually will let him to break the rules.
Watch this movie. De Niro appears has a cameo in one of the most brilliant sequences.
Gilliam handles the camera like the Gods and pays his tribute to the eternal tradition of the british comedy.

Movie Review: What are you all talking about?
Summary: 5 Stars

The thing that seems odd about Brazil is that everybody says it is really confusing. I watched the entire film early this morning and I followed it closely the whole way through. Never once did I find the film to be confusing, dumb, or overreaching. The only people who don't understand films like these are the people with short attention spans and whose favorite film is Independence Day...This film is very well crafted and made, especially in the last few moments. If you follow it, you won't be disappointed in the end.

Movie Review: Timeless
Summary: 5 Stars

I have viewed Brazil on the big scrren whenever I have had the chance. With a newly puchased HDTV I decided I must own this cinematic masterpiece. It doesn't dissapoint. What amazes me is its political currency. Terrorism, personal surveillance, Big Brotherness, even cosmetic plastic surgery all seem familiar facts of life today. The future painted by Terry Gilliam is here now. The only downside to the adventure you will experience is that the tune "Brazil" will haunt your mind for weeks if not months after your viewing.
