Movie Review: BRAVEHEART is a powerhouse in blu-ray

Experiencing Braveheart on blu-ray brings the masterpiece to life like never before. I will never forget that weekend when I first saw Braveheart in the local theaters back in 1995, I came back home awestruck at the brutality and the power displayed in the film, it instantly became one of my favorite films of all time and it inspired a whole new generation of films that brought back the epic back into cinemas. Newer films like Gladiator are also impressive, but not so like the one that started it all. Braveheart comes to blu-ray with an impressive video transfer and sound quality. The visuals pop out of the screen and James Horner's soundtrack thunders in its excellence. Braveheart is truly a treasure to behold, I strongly recommend this!

I just got my hands on a early released copy of Braveheart on Blu-ray from my local Blockbuster Video rental store and the film looks and sounds great. Its transfer to HD surpassed any other I have seen on DVD. Using the MPEG-4 AVC video codec, the video imagery is very sharp without the use of any edge enhancement (or least any I could notice) and the colors are very strong but natural looking. It looks pretty good for being an old movie. The 5.1 Dolby True HD audio is powerful and full during the battle sequences and generally good during the rest of the film. If you like Mel Gibson this movie is a must have. Great story line, great acting by everyone involved. May be the best directed movie ever, by Mel himself of course. I already had it on DVD but wanted it one Blu-ray. The picture and sound quality are much better than the DVD. Not the best quality picture I have seen on Blu-ray but noticeably better than the DVD. The extras are much better than whats on the DVD. Mel worked his ars off making this movie. He was lucky he did not end up in the hospital in the process. Most of us are aware that Braveheart won the coveted Best Picture Oscar in 1995. I'm not going to review the film itself. What you need to know is that the blu ray version of Braveheart is first rate and breathtaking from start to finish. Stunning detail and sharpness throughout. This is the best looking transfer from this era that I've yet seen on blu ray. Paramount reserves its blu ray "Sapphire Series" treatment for select few films (Braveheart, Gladiator, Forest Gump, and most recently Saving Private Ryan). Superb sound quality. This is my favorite movie of all time. From the acting to the cinematography to the outstanding score, this is just a perfect film. I couldn't wait for it to be released on Blu-ray, and it completely lived up to the promise. Everything looks spectacular and the Blu-ray really enhanced my passion for watching the movie, something I didn't think was possible. If you own a Blu-ray and have Braveheart on DVD, you have to upgrade. So worth it.
