Movie Review: True Drive-In Fodder...
Summary: 3 Stars
To understand movies like BRAIN OF BLOOD, it helps to remember the drive-in theatres of old. We patrons were only supposed to see bits and pieces of these movies at best. We were actually in the back seats of our cars w/ our dates (using the movie as background noise) or running back and forth to the snack bar / restroom all night! BRAIN OF BLOOD is a perfect example of such a movie. While I thoroughly enjoy the brain transplant sequences, there are huge patches of dullness that stretch on and on. Now, this is fine if you are otherwise engaged, but can be downright painful to watch if you're not! I do love seeing old stars like Grant Williams (Incredible Shrinking Man, Monolith Monsters) and Kent Taylor running around. Also, John Bloom (Incredible Two-Headed Transplant, The Dark) is good at lumbering around w/ a melted showercap on his head. However, much of the movie's running time drags along at a dying slug's pace. After all, this IS an Al Adamson feature, created only to extend / cash in on the BLOOD ISLAND trilogy that preceded it. So, grab your partner, curl up on the couch, and "see" this classic the way it was meant to be seen, a few minutes here and there. Otherwise, your own brain may bleed...

Human brain transplants and blood-soaked operations highlight this saga filled with blood, shock, and sheer fright, featuring mad doctor antics, an evil dwarf ("Freaks'" Angelo Rossitto), and a pure gold drive-in cast including Kent Taylor (The Mighty Gorga), Grant Williams (The Incredible Shrinking Man), Regina Carrol (Dracula vs. Frankenstein), and Vicki Volante (Horror of the Blood Monsters).
