Movie Review: I must have missed something?

Well everybody told me to watch this movie, so I did. I live in the Netherlands, Europe so you know. I have been to compton once by mistake and south-central by choice. So if you do not like my review blame it on the fact that I am European and I do not know what I am talking about.
The movie overall strikes me as totally non realistic with flying helicopters and firing smg's all the time. Sure it is not the best neighbourhood to live in, but come on it is not a warzone.
The story is told already like a thousand times. A good kid winds up in a bad neighbourhood. He almost goes on the criminal path but... rappapa big surprise surprise he does not he goes to college and so does his his girl. His friend also understand this choice after shooting 3 people in cold blood.
In all its to much over the top for me. I think the movie tries to be a drama but for me it is more like a parody on itsself. The key message being having a good parent the father in this case will avoid getting youre kid being a gangster. So this movie unwillingly blames the black community for their own gangsters. They try to blame it on "the man" in the part where his father takes his son to compton and explaines how the system works. Well you must be a complete moron to believe the theory that the system wants to get drugs to the afro american community so they can kill themselves. The point in all bad neighbourhoods is poverty and that little o so important message is being missed here! Such a shame.
Probably the white community in Beverly Hills is shocked by all the N, B, and H words and I can imagine them thinking "yeah this is really really realistic, o my gosh" Well if you want something realistic watch a documentary!
What anoys me the most is the afro-american hating cop, what is the chance of meeting one of those? Sure its the frustration of the producer which is forced upon us. But I really did not ask for him to do so. Also there is a lack of background about the individuals in this story, why did they turn out the way they did? Cant blame everything on the parents, that would be to easy.
I must say the acting is not that bad. But that is the only positive thing I can say about this movie.

Boyz N The Hood is a cinematic tour deforce. John Singelton has made an improtant film that every young man can realte to no matter what his ethnic background. I first remeber going to see Boyz N the Hood with my stepfather when I was ten years and even a child I understood the message behind the film. John Singleton's Oscar nomination for Best Director at the age of 24 makes him the youngest director to ever receive such an accolade, beating Orson Welles by a good 2 years and it was well earned. The acting in the film was very strong and all of the actors would gone on to finer things. I was born in 1986, so obviously I was too young to understand what this was all about around the time it came out. However, as I grew up, I began to love this more and more - however never being able to get to watch the entire film for some reason. Eventually I know its crazy, but I have recently sat down to watch the ENTIRE film, and man I could see it again.
What it represents is the reality of life in a certain neighbourhood in America, being from the UK we have our equivalents but they are not as harsh as the U.S seriously. Obviously people watch this today and think "okay this was based on lives back then in the hood.." hmmmm, yeh right because the ghetto has all of a sudden come up to a life of luxury? No more like the people acting in this movie are living the lush life, but the ghetto still exists!
This film brought Cuba to the attention of Hollywood of course, and out of all the films he has done (yes including Jerry McGuire where he acts stereotypically black), this is the best he has done by far! However, Morris Chestnut and Ice Cube made it what it was, and for Ice Cube this was the beginning of creating more and more black based movies that started a new genre of realism to the big screen (don't make me start on FRIDAY - that's my film right there - Chris bloody Tucker - aka SMOKEY - classic).
I really do wish they could still be making films like MENACE II SOCIETY, JUICE, BOYZ N THE HOOD and NEW JACK CITY nowadays because young black America need that realism we used to have - they are growing up to believe that everything is all peachy and that they can all be Chris Brown's in the future? Life is not a party - this is the message that needs expressing!
