Movie Reviews of Boyz 'N The Hood

Movie Review: A modern classic for ALL races and ages!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is truly a BRILLIANT movie in that it lets one have an unvarnished look into how the "real" hood is really like. For me this was nothing less than educational. I could see how individuals may be caught in a web of circumstances and locale (the hood) which they are powerless to escape or ignore. This is more than just a movie, it is a powerful statement by a visionary director that tears the stereotyes down, and exposes the humanity of the characters. When watching the movie, I could clearly relate to the characters and feel their pain and anguish --- these were not just thugs and criminals from a poor neighborhood, but humans with hopes, feelings and aspirations, just like you and me. What more can I say, except: BRAVO!

Movie Review: One of the best films of the 90's!!
Summary: 5 Stars

At only 23 years old, John Singleton hit the ground running in this film directing debut. His work seemed as fresh as an established director. Not only was he a superb director, but he also was an excellent screenplay writer. The Academy gave him credit by nominating him in both categories. This movie also has a outstanding supporting cast as well. Cuba Gooding, Jr., Ice Cube, Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett (who would both go on to play Ike and Tina Turner in "What's love got to do with it?" and recieve Oscar nominations.) give outstanding performances. One of the most important black movies in a generation.

Movie Review: This movie is very remarkable.

Young Trey was having a rough time in school. Every day one of his teachers would call his mother ,Trey had signed A contract with his mother stating if he had not got it together (meaning any teachers calling, grades,etc..) he would go live with his father. A few days later Trey went to live with his father to learn how to become A man. Years later manhood had come, friends Dough Boy and Ricky(Brothers)who were his best friends since childhood were still there in adulthood, ricky was shot while making A run for the mother of his child, and died. Dough Boy dies at the end of the movie Trey goes on to college.

Movie Review: Where's that mall?
Summary: 5 Stars

I never saw this when it first came out. But when I got it on DVD and watched it it was great. I can already see where the makers of GTA San Andreas got their ideas from when making the game. The only question, I would like to know if that mall parking lot where Ice Cube and his two homies kill the three guys who killed his brother Ricky is the same place where the first back to the future movie was filmed at the part where Doc brown gets shot by some terrorists in a van and Marty goes back in time to 1955, because everytime I see that part they both look like they take place in the same area.

Movie Review: One of the best of African American Cinema
Summary: 5 Stars

When I think of so called "hood" movies, Menace II Society and this come up in my mind. But unlike Menace, I was really moved by this. A big reason is because you come to care for the characters. It has Characters that reflect on life in general. It has Characters that seek a better life. It has Characters that lose a loved one in a really tragic and ironic way. This movie was nominated for Best Orig. Screenplay and Director at the Oscars. But I think they should have went all out and nominated it for Best Picture because it was really one of the best films of the early nineties.
