Movie Reviews of Boyz 'N The HoodMovie Review: One of my favorite movies of all time. Summary: 5 Stars
This has got be be one of the great dramas of the 90s. John Singleton's storytelling is outstanding. He makes us care for the characters. Probably Gooding's best performance ever. This is also the movie that made Lawrence Fishburne one of my favorite actors. The casting of Ice Cube as the adult Doughboy was genius. He played the part perfectly. In this movie, Singleton gives us a graphic portrayal of life in the inner city. Ricky's struggles to grow up and be a man as his father defines one is almost painful to watch, especially when he loses his best friend to senseless violence. This is not a glamourization of gang life, but rather a vivid portrayal of the fight for survival. This is a graphic, depressing, honest movie and one that I am happy to see made. This is definitely a movie that every drama lover should see.
Movie Review: Boyz 'N the Hood Summary: 5 Stars
Three black male teens come-of-age in the gang "war zones" of South Central Los Angeles. The rough neighborhoods of America often are ignored by the propaganda of politics and media that focuses more on the positives and successes of American Life, Culture and Society. Singleton's vision in this movie, in a very grounded format is compelling in giving "Pleasantville America" a picture of an America that experiences terrorism on a daily basis. It helps explain why there is crime and harshness in these neighborhoods and most importantly clearly delineates the American Government's failure at addressing poverty in the ghettos of America by showing how the cops seem to treat all blacks in the ghetto as if they are animals and not as human beings with compassion. Cuba Gooding, Ice Cube were breath taking in their acting.
Movie Review: All time favorite Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of about 5 movies that can bring me to tears. This is the first movie I ever saw Cuba Gooding Jr. in, and his performance was spectacular. Everything else I watch him in is judged against this movie. Some of Singleton's imagery is a bit over the top and cliche, but all in all, he captures the experience of his characters near perfectly. The movie felt real. All the characters had real concerns, real problems, and reacted in very legit ways. It didn't glorify gangs or violence, quite the contrary in fact. The movie isn't about gang life, it's about three kids' life and their coming of age amidst tragedy. See this movie, and then I hope you realize that all this Columbine and suburb school shootings isn't anything new. This has been going on for quite sometime in neighborhoods you don't hear much about.
Movie Review: this is tha best movie i have ever seen Summary: 5 Stars
this is such a great movie i think that everyone should see it because it doesnt sensationalize living in a violent urban society but humanizes it and shows that it isnt glamourous living there. the story and directing was great using distinct shots like seeing Furious's face after he had shot a gun off and then pulling back to see tha bullet wholes. also at tha beginning of tha film showing a scarred stop sign to show tha violence around tha neighborhood and not to stop. there is also some symbolism in tha film, but if i tell u it then i will ruin tha film for you. but pay attention to 10 year old Ricky when he misses tha bal that a gangster throws to him. the acting is also terriffic with a lot of drama and some humor. Dooky is by far my favorite charecter and then Doughboy.
