Movie Review: 2008... A special year for "Boys Town"
Summary: 5 Stars
2008 will be special for two things. First..the 70th anniversary of the release of the MGM film "Boys Town" with Spencer Tracy and Mickey Rooney. The second is the 90th anniversary of the founding of "Boys Town" near Omaha, Nebraska. Back to the movie,it is 90 minutes worth of your time to watch this movie that depicts the good deed that Father Flanagan did assuring all of us,"There is no such thing as a bad boy".There is one moment in the movie that made me choke up. It was Pee Wee (Bobs Watson) getting struck by a car as Mickey Rooney was preparing to escape with Father Flanagan to the rescue and the other boys. What more can I say.
'Boys Town" is a great movie for everyone. It's nice to know that "Boys Town" is still there to welcome boys...and girls too. Go see the DVD for yourself. It will touch and uplift you!
Movie Review: Wonderful Film, Wonderful Moral

"Boys Town" is a wonderful film for individuals who love motion pictures that teach moral lessons and have authentic purpose. Certainly, the film is greatly lacking in special effects, yet more than makes up for it with the wonderful message, "There's no such thing as a bad boy."
In addition, the cast and film editing were also wonderfully done. Unlike many 21st century films, the acting in "Boys Town" appears genuine. You can almost imagine you are there or at least greatly sympathize for all the Father Flanagans and Whitey Marshes of the world.
Finally, the fact that this DVD also contains "Men of Boys Town" makes it well worth purchasing. In some ways, "Men of Boys Town" is a more powerful film than "Boystown."

This film is an all time classic.
My 10 year son also thought this film was brilliant, even if it was in black and white. Just goes to show that despite all the modern gadgets, effects and high octane action, such a simple film, with no bad language or violence can still resonant with todays kids.
Forty years after last seeing this film, I enjoyed at as much as the first time. As a young boy of 7 years, I remember being delighted when I was told that there would be no girls in this film. I was only slightly annoyed when there was a female presence in the form of a number of nuns and nurses, but the main thing was there was no girls!

When I became a Boys Town fan in 1993, I had not heard of Boys Town before!
I started reading some books about Boys Town and lucky enough I saw the two Boys Town movies on German television. This was years ago. I wrote to Boys Town and asked them when they would release the movies "Boys Town" (1938) and "Men of Boys Town" (1941). It took me 12 years of waiting, and in 2005 I was able to buy this wonderfull DVD at Amazon.com!
The movies are superb! High quality an a must have for every Boys Town fan!! Wonderfull movies, with father Flanagan at his best!!

Movie Review: Review of Boys Town and Men of Boys Town
Summary: 5 Stars
Boys Town/Men of Boy's Town DVD is a wonderful example of what it takes to help troubled boys to grow up being responsible leaders in their own communities. Spencer Tracy shows great compassion for these boys. Father Flanigan was a man of faith and expected miracles from the Lord. This movie does a wonderful job of portraying the life of the real Boys Town.
Compassion and tough leadership needs to be built in our young people and this movie is a great example of doing exactly that.
