Movie Review: Very Entertaining, unlike the original

Boogeyman 2 does something right here; it sets out to entertain us.
From what you have gathered from previous reviews, this is not a sequel to the original Boogeyman, starring Barry Watson. It stars a young woman by the name of Laura (Danielle Savre) and a young man named Matt (Henry Porter)as traumatized young adults, from witnessing the murder of their mother and father as young children. As children, they were convinced the "Boogeyman" killed them, and they grew up with a growing "Boogey-phobia."
The only real comparison you can make to the original is the fear the main character has for the Boogeyman. The only difference, is that in the sequel there is no Boogeyman, only a psychopathic serial killer. In the end all this movie really ends up being is a slasher flick; a well done one at that!
It has been a long time since a slasher film has truly grossed me out, and made me wince in my chair. The gore factor was definitely there; this film but Jason and Freddy to shame. The main part of the story takes place in the psychiatric wing of a local hospital, located in Santa Barbara, CA. The terror takes place at night, one everyone has gone home. One by one, each patient is plucked out, being murdered based on their greatest phobias.
For a straight to DVD film, I was surprised by the seemingly high production value. The cinematography was very pleasant, and the acting was very well done. The effects were great, the gore looking a bit too real at points. The pacing was perfect, and the ending has a nice little twist.
If you did not like the original Boogeyman, and you love slasher pictures, check this one out. If you are expecting a supernatural thriller, look else where. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did.
