31 Bonanza episodes from the first and second seasons (1960 - 1961) were accidentally allowed to pass into the public domain, enabling video companys to publish them without paying royalties. The original theme music, however, IS still protected by copyright, so video collections like this one have had to substitute a different song.
I've purchased Bonanza DVDs from a couple of different companies, and I strongly recommend this set. You'll get all 31 available episodes, four to a disc (three on volume eight). Other companies have crammed as many as NINE episodes onto a single one-sided disc; I've seen several of these that would not play. You won't have that problem with this set. Also, the faux theme music on this set is much less obnoxious than the other.
Until the studios release season sets for Bonanza, this is your best chance to enjoy these classic oaters. At the current price of $28.99 that's 94 cents per episode, quite an entertainment bargain.
