Movie Review: For hard core Darin fans only
Summary: 4 Stars
This is for die-hard Darin fans because he was deathly ill during taping of this special; in fact he collapsed backstage and had to have emergency medical care for his heart condition. He barely survived and had his first open heart surgery shortly after, surviving on cardio-conversions in the interim.
His condition is obvious during taping; he can't really sing because he doesn't have the wind. He hardly moves, which is atypical of him; he's normally an energetic singer/dancer. This is less of a performance, and more of a chronical of his illness. Tho' any footage of BD is worthwhile.
His Fagan number was impressive in spite of his illness. It shows how great he would have been in musical theater; alas his health wouldn't permit him to do musical theater even when he was (relatively) healthy because it's too physically taxing.
