Movie Reviews of Blue VelvetMovie Review: A mental train wreck that will leave you dazed Summary: 4 StarsThe first time I watched this movie I simply hated it. But I couldn't stop thinking about it. I decided to give it another try a few years later.
Now my reaction is much different. Now I think it's great-horrible-funny-sad-weird-normal-intriguing-boring-awesome, if that makes any sense. Mind-boggling would probably be the best description for the movie Blue Velvet.
It is a multi-faceted mystery, and I think the main character might actually be the biggest question mark. He's your seemingly normal young man; friendly, sincere, ambitious. But he's drawn into a dark side of himself he didn't know existed. He gets lost in his own sexual and morbid fantasies and isn't sure he wants to escape.
But then, eventually, he gets trapped. The answer to this puzzle isn't as important as the in-depth character study.
So strap on for the ride. You'll probably hate and love the experience.
Movie Review: Not all it's cracked up to be Summary: 3 StarsI watched this movie tonight and was a little disappointed by the story. I read all of the reviews, looked at the plot line and thought it would be a good movie to watch. I was a little bored through the movie because it traveled kinda slow and was a little disjointed. At times, it was very boring to me. Maybe in it's time when it was made, it probably was a milestone in movie making. It is now outdated with it's story line and "director's tricks" which made the movie very confusing. It you want to see a movie along this line that also has a "mystery" to it, see "StrangeLand".
Movie Review: A Milestone Summary: 3 StarsBlue Velvet
This is a beautiful movie, set up like a stone in a setting by director David Lynch's trademark eccentric lighting. The photography and the sets are gorgeous; the mix of symbols and refernces and visual styles was daring in its time and the whole experience of seeing it is as much the unrolling of a scroll as it is of watching a movie.
The story looks like a William S. Burroughs adaptation of a Hardy Boys mystery. A coupla teenagers stumble on a mystery and, gee whiz, they deced to solve it. Instead of buried treasure, it involves electronically amflified sadists crazed by brain-implanted drugs and wearing leather, velvet, lace and rubber fetish suits. There's an occasional mutilated corpse thrown in.
At its release in 1987, Blue Velvet and its creator were unexpected surpises from a Hollywood where the scripts seem to be generated by a computer that watches a lot of television. Today, the movie seems a bit full of itself, (recurring shots of a symbolic flame), and the plot seems less satisfying. The world of horrors that's revealed in the first part of the film is resolved rather stupidly at the end.
Isalbella Rossellini made her career with a lush performance in this movie and Dennis Hopper remade his. The rest of the cast seems weirdly restrained: hard to tell if by director's choice or just wooden acting.
Still, this was a movie that changed the expectaitons we have of movies and it's well worth seeing.

Movie Review: Unadvisable Summary: 1 StarsI thought I was going to see something of Roy Orbinson. It was only in the title of the name. I could not watch it when it became vulgar with offensive material. It is too bad to have a good story with great actors lowering its potentially good quality with such degrading vulgarity. There are better ways of getting this aspect of the story across with such depiction. Silly me, I should have checked the rating. I "assumed" it safe as it would involve our beloved Roy Orbinson. I was sadly and horridly disappointed and cannot in conscience recommend it to anyone at anytime. By the way,I destroyed the tape in good conscience. Watch at your own eternal risk.
Movie Review: THE PERFECT RELEASE FOR A PERFECT MOVIE Summary: 5 StarsThe extras, the transference, the sound everything on this dvd is awesome a must have for any David Lynch fan.
