Movie Review: AMAZING Summary: 5 StarsStill a ground breaking film. I will never grow tried of this dark story.
The documentary included on the DVD adds another level to this work.
David Lynch is a under valued artist in our country.
Movie Review: "I'll F*** anything that moves" Summary: 5 StarsUpon his return to his hometown Jeffrey Beaumont painfully learns that Lumberton isn't such a swell town after all. Meet the sex-fiend/small-time crime boss, Frank Booth played by Dennis Hopper. Hopper's character makes the entire movie. Frank enters the apartment of Dorothy Vallens, the singer/victim of his latest kidnap exploitation, and proceeds in raping her while he inhales nitrites from his breathing aparatus all under the watchful eye of Jeffrey who is hiding in the closet and probably wondering what he got himself into. Shortly thereafter, while Jeffrey finishes hobnobbing with Mrs. Vallens he has an interesting run in with Frank. "What's your name neighbor?" Frank then takes Jeffrey on a tour of the countryside and Jeffrey wakes up in an abandoned lot on the outskirts of town feeling sore from the severe beating which he received from interfering in Frank's affairs. Although some scenes are a bit disturbing, there's a handful of scenes and dialogue that had me rolling with laughter.
Movie Review: A mental train wreck that will leave you dazed Summary: 4 StarsThe first time I watched this movie I simply hated it. But I couldn't stop thinking about it. I decided to give it another try a few years later.
Now my reaction is much different. Now I think it's great-horrible-funny-sad-weird-normal-intriguing-boring-awesome, if that makes any sense. Mind-boggling would probably be the best description for the movie Blue Velvet.
It is a multi-faceted mystery, and I think the main character might actually be the biggest question mark. He's your seemingly normal young man; friendly, sincere, ambitious. But he's drawn into a dark side of himself he didn't know existed. He gets lost in his own sexual and morbid fantasies and isn't sure he wants to escape.
But then, eventually, he gets trapped. The answer to this puzzle isn't as important as the in-depth character study.
So strap on for the ride. You'll probably hate and love the experience.
