Movie Reviews of Blood - The Last VampireMovie Review: Great short, stop looking for Kafka in it Summary: 5 Stars
Blood the Last Vampire is all about style and action. I don't know why people down it so much. If you watch it look for something complicated or complex, you'll probably be disappointed. But that's not what it's about. Go for Akira or Lain or Arthur C. Clarke if you're after that. Blood is a short, very good-looking cell-shaded film about a kick ... vampire girl who kills vampire-like demons. The only real character is the lead, Saya. She is the sullen and withdrawn type, so don't expect "characer development," as it would spoil her mystery. Blood does come across as a first episode, so I hope there are more chapters ahead to continue chronicling her battles. And I hope they are also short and sweet, like this one.
Movie Review: The Best animation I have ever seen Summary: 5 Stars
Although the story is great in this anime, this is not why I love it so much, the animation in this movie, (a combination of 2D Animation and 3D CGI) Totally floored me! Amazing to watch, you can see the loving, hard, work in every frame of animation. Disney has not done anything that can touch the animation in this. And as far as total likeability, I prefer the animation in this to even Square and Pixar films! The *only* shortcoming (pun heh heh) is that the movie is SHORT its only about 40 minutes, and really... You want MORE! As for the DVD its pretty...good, fantastic anamorphic transfer with no visible artifacts and a kick ... Dolby Digital 5.1 Soundtrack. Very nice viewing...
Movie Review: 7 stars Summary: 5 Stars
I loved the visual style of this movie. IT was underlit the first time when I watched it. But I grew to appreciate it as it helped to establish the mood.
The mood is very important. I found the vampires very scary when watching vs when I saw pictures of them which I found to be less threatening. THis I attribute to the sound design & lighting style.
Compared to others, I will not reduce points for lack of backstory. I think it was great the way it was. Best anime vampire vs HELLSING which is pretty lame.
Visual Threat. Definitely director was referencing Se7en in sound design, credit design.
Movie Review: I WANT MORE!! Summary: 5 Stars
Yes, yes. Everyone is right. The anime is about 45 minutes long. It feels more like the first chapter of an anime series than a movie. It's still worth buying. The animation is excellent and the whole concept of a female vampire hunter (Saya) who carries a samurai sword makes for a very good story (did you know there's a PlayStation 2 game of it in Japan?). There are many unanswered questions in the movie. Buy it if you want to see a great anime, but be warned that this movie is a big tease. You'll end up wanting more and it looks like this is all we get. All we can do is watch it over and over and over and ...
Movie Review: Short and sweet... Summary: 5 Stars
I don't normally write these but I wanted to say that it was one of the few pieces of anime that I have seen lately that I have really enjoyed. Why?The main character is a seemingly young girl but she's not bouncing up and down jiggling all over the place. She's actually surly and pretty mean to just about everyone. There's no sexual innuendo's AT ALL and while the story is short, it leaves enough information for viewers to understand and put the pieces together of what's going on. All in all, it's well worth the price as both a wonderful story and an incredibly well done piece of animation.
