Movie Reviews of Bleach - Season One Box Set (Original and Uncut)Movie Review: One of the very best... Summary: 5 StarsI got started watching this Anime by my nephew. He mentioned it, and I sought out the episodes on Joost, Hulu and Youtube. I have to say that I was really impressed by the production. This is an anime the exemplifies what an Anime should be. After just a few episodes, I went out and bought Season One. Now I am a parent of a 9 year old child, so what I have to say is with that in mind. She doesn't really watch this with me, but she knows that it's "Daddy's Cartoon." She watches it with me from time to time but right now she's more interested in Shojo type anime. Bleach is violent, that is one of the things I should say up front. But unlike others, I don't fear my child seeing violence on a Cartoon. The makers of this Anime aren't trying to manage your children, they're trying to tell a story--a fact that animators in the US would do well to realize. That's one of this anime's strengths--it doesn't try to reshape the world. There are good guys and there are bad guys and right is right and wrong is wrong. That's the way a hero's story should be.
Ichigo is a complex character, as are all of the characters in this saga. Even with their complexities, it is easy to follow and I like that. Chad, Uryu, Rukia, Orihime and Kon all develop as characters during the course of this story. No one is cardboard or seems to be window dressing to the story. The way Ichigo interacts with each of them further establishes his image as the hero. I particularly enjoy the relationship between Ichigo and Rukia who come to mean a lot to each other as friends and perhaps even more...
While Ichigo gains strength as a Soul Reaper, he is not invincible. He makes a lot of mistakes and he suffers for them. In spite of this, he overcomes his setbacks and pushes forward. He doesn't think about the possibility that he might loose. He's protective of his friends and willing to sacrifice in order to protect the people who need protecting. This has rapidly become my favorite Anime and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys anime.

For as long as he can remember, Ichigo Kurosaki has been able to see ghosts. But when he meets Rukia, a Soul Reaper who battles evil spirits known as Hollows, he finds his life is changed forever. Now, with a newfound wealth of spiritual energy, Ichigo discovers his true calling: to protect the living and the dead from evil. And when he vows to defend Rukia from the ruthless justice of the Soul Society, he and his friends must cross over and do battle in the spirit world...
5 Disc Set with 20 Episodes! Bilingual (Japanese & English) English Subtitles Hot-tempered 15-year-old Ichigo Kurosaki, the hero of the popular fantasy-adventure Bleach (2004), has the unsettling ability to see spirits who are unable to rest in peace. His sixth sense leads him to Rukia, a Soul Reaper who destroys Hollows (soul-devouring monsters) and ensures the deceased find repose with the Soul Society. When she's injured in battle, Rukia transfers her sword and much of her power to Ichigo, whose spiritual energy makes him a formidable substitute Soul Reaper. But the orange-haired teenager isn't sure he wants the job: too many risks and moral dilemmas. Chad, a gentle, muscle-bound giant; ditsy Ohime, whose powers take the form of tiny protector-spirits; and Ishida, a descendant of a clan of Hollow-hunters who despise Soul Reapers, join Ichigo in his battles against the ghoulish creatures. A graver challenge arrives when a supernatural assassin takes Rukia back to the Soul Society, where she faces execution for sharing her powers with a mortal. Urahara ("Hat and Clogs Guy") tells Ichigo it may be possible to save Rukia, and puts him on a grueling training regimen. Ichigo learns to unleash his latent powers, while Chad and Ohime prepare to accompany him under the tutelage of Yoruichi, Urahara's talking cat. As the season ends, Urahara constructs an inter-dimensional portal that links Earth to the Soul Society for seven minutes: can the high school students save Rukia and return in time? Director Noriyuke Abe ably juggles dynamic swordfights, emotional scenes, and slapstick comedy. Ichigo may act like a jerk at times, but the filmmakers and voice actor Johnny Yong Bosch imbue the character with unusual depth. Ichigo can simultaneously express impatience at and compassion for a "Mod Soul," a disposable artificial entity created by the Soul Society. (Rated "Teen," suitable for ages 13 and older: violence, grotesque imagery) --Charles Solomon
