Movie Reviews of Blast From the PastMovie Review: Christopher Walken is hysterical in this! (But I'm biased.) Summary: 5 Stars
OK: so we're in the mid-50s, and Walken is this brilliant but eccentric scientist who thinks "the Russians will drop the bomb at any moment." So he builds this fallout shelter in his backyard -- it's huge! When something happens that forces he and his wife down there, they wind up thinking that Walken's nightmare has come true, and they end up staying down there for 35 years, during which time they have "Adam" (Brendan Fraiser). All kinds of hilarity explodes when Adam gets to finally go above ground (I can't spoil it for you), and ... well, see this movie. Just see it. Trust me. It's laugh out loud funny.
Movie Review: I just love a good fairytale where everyone lives happily ever after! Summary: 5 Stars
What an adorable movie is Blast From the Past. The acting is fabulous and the story is just precious. Plus, the characters were all so nice (it was hard for me to root for Meg Ryan in Kate and Leopold because she was such a witch) that you immediately wanted Eve and Adam to get together.
Since I am a child of the 60's, I do remember bomb shelters and bomb drills so the concept was not entirely unbelievable. This is one of the few FAMILY films that appeals to young and old. No violence and very little bad language. This movie makes me happy (all ten times that I have seen it) and it will you too!
Movie Review: Very funny movie Summary: 5 Stars
and I have to disagree with the reviewer who said that the foul language wasn't necessary. It provided a stark cultural contrast between Adam, who didn't talk that way, and most of the modern people who did. We also got to see Adam's reaction to it. Unlike most movies that use foul language, the use of such language in this film was used very effectively to allow Adam to stand out from everyone else, and to tell us something about his character. It was used for characterization, and not gratuitously. Overall, it was very funny-which is always a good thing- and as usual, Brenden Fraser is hot!
Movie Review: You got to accent the positive and downplay the negitive... Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of my favorites, i don't what it is but it just brings a smile to your face when your watching. The stars really make this a great movie because the idea is silly , a man is born in a fallout shelter when his inventer dad back in 1962 takes his wife under ground after a nuke scare (but it turns out to be a plane that hit their house not a nuke!) then 35 years later the now grown up boy goes above ground to find out what is left of the wold after the nuke hit...he just wants a non-mutant wife! anyway it's a good funny movie pulled off well by all.
Movie Review: Blast from the Past is . . . swell ! Summary: 5 Stars
What a surprise this picture was. I admit the movie trailers suggested a goofy "Pleasantville" knock-off but this was truly a great film. I've seen it over a dozen times on DVD and it keeps getting better. The DVD is outstanding in both audio and visual quality. Christopher Walken provides a stunning performance of the genius dad who's gone just a little bit over the edge and Sissy Spacek provides the perfect 60's mother, complete with oven mitts. I'm a '50's -60's music lover and the Perry Como sountrack was, shall I say, swell!
