Movie Reviews of Blast From the Past

Movie Review: A funny film for all ages with a great message
Summary: 5 Stars

This terrific feel good film is just right for all ages. It has great acting, a wonderful romantic story, and an even better message. With many memorable scenes, lines, and a great soundtrack.

Christopher Walken is hilarious as a fun-loving genius that is utterly paranoid of the Soviet Empire.

Adam has been living in a fallout shelter for his entire life and suddenly is free and required to come above ground. Adam's naive and innocent character makes for many funny moments.
Eve: A "Rob Roy," I thought only hookers drank that stuff.
Adam: Well I know mom sure loves them.

The movie is full of great writing and memorable lines.
Adam: Mom, dad, we must hurry I'm being chased by a psychologist.
Crazy Friend: It's ok, it happens from time to time to everyone.

The movie really shows how our society has lost some of its innocents, however it also shows the beauty of a loving family, the true love between a man and a woman, and the importance of a fallout shelter.

I highly recommend this movie to everyone. I've seen it many times and it never gets old.

In My Humble Opinion

Movie Review: BEAVER REDUX
Summary: 5 Stars

Brendan Fraser is remarkably good in this good-natured comedy about a young man born and raised in a fallout shelter. Fraser manages to parlay his rugged good looks and youthful exuberance into an intensely likeable hero named Adam. Once released into the modern world, Adam is gleefully joyful to watch. Alicia Silverstone is fine as his "Eve" who is both enamored and repelled by Fraser's childishly kind behavior. Dave Foley as her gay friend is marvelous as well. I also liked Joey Skolnik as the bartender who metamorphoses from a happy teenager to the self-proclaimed monk of a new religion. Kudos also to Nathan Killion (Firefly series) as Alicia's macho boyfriend who gets put in his place by Fraser. Also to the delightful dance scene where Fraser and two girls jitterbug to high heaven. But one cannot overlook the truly marvelous performances from Sissy Spacek and Christopher Walken as Fraser's paranoid parents. They are both brilliant, and one can see how these two won Oscars for previous performances. Director Hugh Wilson keeps it all together and I found myself smiling and chuckling all the way through. A delightful find!

Movie Review: A Blast to Watch!
Summary: 5 Stars

A paranoid scientist builds a full sized home in a large nuclear bomb shelter for his pregnant wife. A plane crash that he thinks is a bomb prompts him to whisk his wife down below, and they live in the shelter with enough supplies for 35 years.

But the father has an apparent cardiac episode in the early 1990s, and so they send their son (Adam) to the earth to buy supplies. He meets a beautiful girl named (surprise!) Eve, who befriends him and helps him to find his way in the world.

There are many funny and entertaining moments, and Brendan Fraser does a great job of playing the well educated, well behaved son. I lover it when he tells the guy at the memorabilia store to stop taking the Lord's name in vain. The store owner says "Why, do you have a problem with it?" Adam says "Yes, I have a BIG problem with it!"

Adam not only has a lot to learn from the world, but the world has a lot to learn from him. This was one of the most entertaining movies I've seen in a while.

Movie Review: Sweet, funny, romantic period 1960s movie
Summary: 5 Stars

A view of a period in our history surrounded by fear and paranoia concerning the nuclear holocaust that was coming from Cuba circa 1962. This wonderful glimpse of the early 1960s mentality served up by Christopher Walken as the ever positive (yet prepared for the coming apocalypse) husband and father, along with Sissy Spacek's perfect mother, makes this romp a joy to watch. Brendan Fraser as the "spitting image" positive thinking, Perry Como loving, son makes a perfect entrance into modern day society after growing up in a bomb shelter. His innocent, loving approach to everything he sees makes a good movie and script even more enjoyable. Alicia Silverstone gives one of her best performances in film (along with the movie Crush, which introduced her). Her "seasoned" woman of the world approach offsets Fraser's boy man perfectly. The tone is perfect, and the performances are a delight. Look for a wonderful dance to Mr. Zoot Suit. If you don't love this movie, you don't like movies period.

Movie Review: One of the best all-around family fun movies in years!
Summary: 5 Stars

My family and I went to see "Blast From The Past" 3 times while in theatrical release. It was funny, heartwarming and depicted good family values. I held Brendan Fraser's character of Adam up to my daughter as "the kind of guy her Dad and I would like to see her bring home". Fraser as Adam, Christopher Walken & Sissy Spacek as his parents and Dave Foley as his new found friend were all tremendous and very, very funny! Alicia Silverstone turned out a fine performance as well. There are scenes in "Blast From The Past" at which I laughed so hard I could hardly breathe. The moment I found it was out on DVD I raced to my favorite store, Amazon.com, to order our family copy. Hope we don't wear the DVD out! Looking for a truly entertaining film that's worth popping the popcorn and gathering the family around for a terrific evening of movie watching? You'll find it with "Blast From The Past"!
