Movie Reviews of Black SheepMovie Review: Slapstick humor with sarcasm and a little wit... Summary: 3 Stars
Mike Donnelly's (Chris Farley) brother, Al, is running for Governor in the state of Washington. However, Mike's desperate attempts to try to help his brother's campaign always turn into something destructive. In order to keep Mike under control, his brother sends Steve Dodds (David Spade) to keep Mike away from Washington towns in order to avoid future embarrassment. This, however, is a harder task than what Steve had imagined it to be, and things begin to turn ugly. Black Sheep is a comedy that survives on sarcasm, slapstick humor, and occasional wit. The end result is an average film experience that produces laughs, but not more.
Movie Review: Haven't I seen this somewhere before? Summary: 3 Stars
I love Chris Farley but this movie is not his best. I know this has been said before but to quote "I liked it the first time I saw it when it was called Tommy Boy". The name of Farley's character has changed his profession has changed and so has the name of David Spade's. It is still hilariously funny up it will always in my mind be overshadowed by Tommy Boy.
Movie Review: No, no no!!! Summary: 2 Stars
With the big success of Tommy Boy, people thought they needed another quick hit with both Farley and Spade. Instead, casting Farley and Spade in this bomb does nothing but give the audience hopes, even PLEAS for the slightest bit of comic relief. The film has a couple laughable moments, but some may be laughing more at how rushed and undeveloped the film is than at some corny joke about "chocolate pudding in my underpants." I don't know why this movie is so rushed, by the way; it ends up with a running length of only 86 minutes. And if you ask me, it's the rushing of the film that is its biggest demise. Characters constantly go out of character for no reason, there aren't very many pleasing jokes, and nothing ever does a very good job of getting developed. For example, I got the impression that the film's basic plot was to send Farley and Spade's characters up in a cabin so that Farley's character wouldn't ruin the election for his brother. However, I don't think the two even spend a half hour in the retreat. Also, Farley is much funnier when his character isn't trying to be a nice-guy, role-model type. Actually, that brings up another flaw, Farley hardly ever plays the same character, he goes from charismatic role model for kids to extreme klutz & idiot to rockin' pothead. I love Chris Farley and was very sad to see him go, but for some of his better moments, get Tommy Boy, or maybe even Beverly Hills Ninja. Better choice yet-- buy SNL's "Best Of Chris Farley." It's hilarious, nostalgic, and much more fun to watch than this.
Movie Review: David Spade can't even defend it... Summary: 2 Stars
Remember when David Spade was still on SNL, and he and Teri Hatcher did that "Spade In America" sketch on Weekend Update? Well, Teri Hatcher was dressed up as David Spade, and David Spade was dressed up as Teri Hatcher. To quote Teri Hatcher (playing David Spade), she summed up this movie the best: "Well, you know, I did a movie called 'Black Sheep.' Maybe you saw it the first time, when it was called 'Tommy Boy!'" David Spade's response (dressed as Teri Hatcher): "Uh.. yes. I did see that. You were great, David. I mean, you are very sexy." What a comeback...way to promote your movie there, David. Tommy Boy was good, but this one was rushed out to capitalize on that movie's popularity. Fans shunned Black Sheep. There are a couple of scenes in which one may crack a smile, but all in all it tanked at the box office, it's rank in sales is 1095 spots behind Tommy Boy, and based on the fact that it has only gotten 39 Amazon.com reviews over the past 9 years, I think it's fair to say that this movie just isn't very funny nor entertaining to most people.
