Movie Reviews of Black BeautyMovie Review: My favorite film version of Black Beauty Summary: 5 Stars
I remember watching this years ago and was looking for it so that I could share it with my six-year-old daughter. Though not completely faithful to Anna Sewell's classic story Black Beauty (Sterling Classics), this film version stays true in many aspects to the spirit of the story. Told from the point of view of Black Beauty (voiced by Alan Cummings), the story traces the life and times of a beautiful black stallion, Black Beauty from his birth and idyllic beginnings with a squire's family to being worked cruelly by other owners over a period of twenty or so years.
The story has its uplifting moments, as when Black Beauty narrates his story - of good friends MerryLegs the plucky pony, to his tempestuous and fiery-willed lady friend, Ginger; of being treated with kindness and respect, and then to the bleak, dark moments of working round-the-clock and being treated with cruelty and indifference. The score is achingly beautiful and the cinematography is gorgeous, giving viewers a glimpse of life in Victorian England. The horse's voice rings true and clear, and there isn't the cutesy talking animals seen in other movies. This is a family-friendly production and will remain my favorite film version of Black Beauty.
Movie Review: black beauty Summary: 5 Stars
Wow have you seen the movie `Black Beauty". It was one of the best movies I've seen so far. It made me feel different things. It made me laugh and cry. I think it was a wonderful movie. If you see this movie you'll see what I mean. It was about this horse named Black Beauty. He was a very happy horse until His owner's house got burned. Then he got sold to this other man that did not take good care of him. Black Beauty never got fed and he always got hit. Since that day he was a very unhappy horse. The best part of this movie was When Black Beauty fell in love with a horse named Ginger. He was no longer the same horse. He was a happy horse. One thing that I didn't tell you was that Black Beauty's happiness didn't last for long because after few days Ginger died because she got hit to many times. Once again Black Beauty was the same old horse that he was before he met Ginger. I think that movie was very good because it had a happy ending. At the end of the movie I cried because Black Beauty was once again with his first owners whose house got burned. If you see this movie I'm sure that your going to enjoy it.
Movie Review: Really quite stunning Summary: 5 Stars
I rented this thinking that my son might enjoy it, and that I might possibly be able to stand to sit through most of it.
What a surprise! This really is one of the more beautiful films I've ever seen, and I'm quite demanding. I think it's safe to say that this film is the ultimate "sleeper;" I didn't even know it existed until I saw it on the video store "Family DVD" shelf.
It's possible that it might be almost a little too true to the novel for very young children; but my 4 year old son and I had some very nice conversations about it during and after the film, and he never seemed to be overly disturbed.
It is true to the novel, which alone would recommend it; but it also has a stunning visual presence all its own. The director's vision is really quite profound, and it contains what is perhaps the most perfect footage of frolicking, running horses ever made.
This film certainly tapped some deep wells of feeling within me; if you love animals in general and horses in particular, I can confidently promise that you won't be disappointed.
Movie Review: Beautiful movie for anyone Summary: 5 Stars
A heartwarming tale for both adult and children. Horse lovers will adore this movie, i find it one of those movies where you have to watch it often and often just to admire black beauty himself as well as what friends he meets along the way. A well mannered stallion raised well upon his first farm and his second farm, where he meets his mate Ginger and his best friend Merrylegs, had been sold .. and from that point on did everything go downhill for poor Beauty. Although at the very end of the movie everything summed up for a happy ending.
In my opinion, i say that this movie is for every horse-loving child and adult. It allows you to see what the horse sees itself through both cruelity and love of mankind. the characters are well put together ..
the only thing i see wrong with this is that none of the other horses besides Beauty were given voices. only actions to express themselves.
Movie Review: Beautiful, Moving, Emotional Summary: 5 Stars
I remember reading the story of Black Beauty as a child. I was about 10 when I first began reading the sweet words describing his birth, and the sadness that was evoked when describing the passing of his friend "Ginger". I cried as a child, and equally so, wept as an adult. Movies of this quality are rare and don't come along too often. With that being said, it was an absolute joy to sit and be immersed within the story, landscape and emotion of this film. I had the good fortune of viewing it on Animal Planet this past week, and do intend on purchasing it. I know that it will make a wonderful addition to my growing Equine Film collection. For those who have not had the good fortune of seeing this movie, please do so. I am sure that you will come to love horses as much as I do. They truly are the most magnificent of creatures, and make the most beautiful centerpiece for a story of this scale and beauty.
