Movie Review: ABSOLUTELY TRUTHFUL

FROM AMAZON'S REVIEW OF THIS MOVIE, I CAN TELL NONE OF YOU HAVE BEEN TO CUBA OR SPOKEN TO SOMEONE WHO'S RECENTLY ARRIVED. THE MOVIE IS "GENTLE" IN IT'S DEPICTION OF THE REALITY OF LIFE IN CUBA. IF THE MOVIE HAD REVEALED THE LIVES OF THOSE WHO ARE NOT PRIVILEDGED ENOUGH TO WORK FOR THE GOVERNMENT RUN TOURISM INDUSTRY, NO ONE WOULD BE ABLE TO SIT THROUGH IT. IE- YOU CAN GO TO JAIL FOR SIX MONTHS IF THERE IS FOOD FOUND IN YOUR HOME WHICH EXCEDES THE ONE POUND OF RICE AND ONE POUND OF BEANS ALLOWED IN THE MONTHLY RATION. WAKE UP FOLKS, IGNORANCE IS OUR GREATEST ENEMY.

Movie Review: Amazing
Summary: 5 Stars

I learned Spanish in college and going through my years as a Spainsh student I rented every film that was in the Spanish language in every rental place in town. This is, at this point in time, my favorate movie. I love this movie, very powerful. Only things wrong with it. (I think I get too critical from watching so many times) It is a little melodramatic and the main character and his girl friend are very beautiful (the girl is a hottie!) which I think takes away from the realism. But watch it you'll love it.

Movie Review: Fascinating portrait of Cuban life
Summary: 5 Stars

The story of Gustavo, a young Cuban man who has bought into the Communist dream, and his gradual disillusionment as the lives of everyone around him fall apart. The story is perhaps too melodramatic (the ending, especially, is unfortunate), but it is sustained by its passion, the gorgeous photography and the wonderful soundtrack (isn't it available on CD somewhere?). I cared about these characters and I loved this film.

Movie Review: Realistic
Summary: 5 Stars

Cuba is close to my heart and this paints an picture of the Cuba I visited in 1996 (although I wouldn't know about the hotel part, since we stayed in people's homes). It is a sad portrait of what has become of Fidel's Cuba. Beyond that, I found it well scripted, well acted and well shot. This may very well be the first DVD I buy...I want to see it over and over again.
