Movie Reviews of Birthday Girl

Movie Review: Twists Come Early On In This Drama
Summary: 4 Stars

Thiis is another one of these modern-day British crime films that are a bit quirky . It's not wild like "Snatch" or "Sexy Beast" but it's interesting and it has some rough characters.

It also has a corny and somewhat predictable ending but early in the show - not late - has some neat twists to make it very interesting for the first-time viewer. Basically, it's about a low-key British male who sends away for a Russian "mail order bride" who winds up, with the aid of two Russian male friends, providing a couple of big surprises.

Ben Chapin and Nicole Kidman co-star, and are very good, as are Vincent Cassel and Matthieu Kassovitz as Kidman's Russian cohorts.

Kidman once again proves she's far more than just a beautiful face. She can act.

Movie Review: Solid romantic comedy with an edge.
Summary: 4 Stars

Nicole really is a great actress (don't ask me what happened with 'Eyes Wide Shut'), and she proves it here once again. This is somewhat of a farce and it's essential that the viewer accept the premise in order to go along for the ride. The movie starts off slowly, but I found the payoff at the end to be very satisfying. There is a lot of subtlety and wit in the dialog and the acting. This is a movie that plays to the smart crowd. Most of the jokes and plot points could be missed if you weren't paying attention. Nicole's behavior arc, in particular, is very believable and compelling. By the end of the movie, you are convinced that she is not only a beautiful Russian woman, but a very smart and complex human being, as well.

Movie Review: That Darned Internet...
Summary: 4 Stars

John Buckingham, a terminally dull, lonely bank employee (Ben Chaplin) finds a russian bride named Nadia (the sizzling Nicole Kidman) through a web site. Upon meeting, they discover that they don't speak each other's language. Not to worry! This odd couple find mutual understanding through, um... bondage! What starts out as a sweet / funny love story becomes a crime drama when Nadia's "cousin" and his friend (Vincent Cassel from Eastern Promises) arrive unanounced for her birthday. Kidman's Nadia is scorchingly hot, seductive, and dangerous. She is the answer to John's dreams and nightmares. BIRTHDAY GIRL belongs in the special Nicole Kidman section of every DVD collection...

Movie Review: Same story as Original Sin with Banderas/Jolie
Summary: 4 Stars

Nicole is hot in this movie, and very believable as a sexy Russian golddigger chick. If you have seen Original Sin you will know exactly how this movie will end. The difference is Original Sin is set in the past over 100 years ago, and Birthday Girl brings this story about one of the oldest cons in the book into contemporary times. The ending is again a bit upside-down, obviously intended to make the audience feel better about human nature. Enjoyable flick anyways, with some good tongue-in-cheek humour.

Movie Review: great film i need to see it again
Summary: 4 Stars

This was a goood film and I like miss kidman I love all her work I remember seeing her in the great TO DIE FOR that was a good film. Now this film didn't play very well in 2001,but that ok see I still love this film it has comedy and drama and it's dark as well. Nicole is sexy as hell her body is slim long and lean. And I love her nice creamy white skin this is the film you should buy if your a Nicole Kidman fan.
