Movie Reviews of Billabong OdysseyMovie Review: Big Surf on North Shore Summary: 3 Stars
Good DVD in respect to camera work and ability to catch some of the nice big stuff on North Shore. Great diversion for those like me who spend the winter in snow, sliding down big mountains. Much rather slide down a big wave. Worthy adding to a library and helping overcome the cabin-fever that sets in when you're landlocked in the winter.
Movie Review: Interesting. Great footage. Summary: 3 Stars
Great footage. Not really a very in depth movie. I think I was hoping for surfing/tropical beaches - a "take me on vacation from the comfort of my couch" movie. It is not. But it is a really interesting documentary on big wave and tow-in surfing.
Movie Review: Billabone Odyssey Summary: 3 Stars
Good footage of big wave riding. I've always been fasinated by the surfers that only go after the large wave's. If you like big wave tow in surfing. Check out Laird Hamilton's Step into Liquid.
Movie Review: Can that be real?? Summary: 3 Stars
Worth it all for the first 3 minutes; can that be real?....It is. Overall not quite as entertaining as "Step Into Liquid", but a great time none-the-less.
Movie Review: Poor Mans Step into liquid Summary: 2 Stars
This movie sucked. There was hardly any surfing footage. I've seen more surfing footage in Hawaii five O . They totally try to ignore the fact that Laird Hamilton invented tow surfing. They try and say it was Ken Bradshaw (no disrespect to Mr. Bradshaw, He's amazing)that invented tow in surfing. Then they have some fruity poser looking guy trying to tell us that he invented the hydrofoil surfboard. We all know it was Laird. This movie just plain sucks. Way too much talking. If your going to talk through the whole movie at least show surfing footage while you do it. We don't need to see the director and his bad hair. And we really don't need a science lesson on how waves are formed. The only thing I care about is how big the wave is and the shape. Only good thing about the DVD is the opening sequence and some narly wipeouts. Do yourself a favor and save your money. Buy step into liquid, one of Lairds's DVD's or Endless Summer 2. I felt like I was watching a behind the surfing documentary on VH1 or something. Oh yeah I feel bad for the surfers who appeared in this movie. Your talents deserve a better showcase. Just one more thing. The Mavericks Crew rules. You guys are awesome. If it wasn't for them this DVD would get one star.
