Movie Reviews of Bikini SummerMovie Review: Better in one way than the sequel Summary: 4 Stars
You get to see a lot of Melinda Armstrong in this, and by that I mean she has some full-frontal nudity which is awesome considering that there is absolutely none of that in the sequel. So in that one way this is better than the sequel.
In all other ways, including and especially writing (believe it or not), Bikini Summer 2 is far superior. This is a fun movie and a must have for those who like this genre, but it's not nearly so fun as its successor. Armstrong carries this movie but she is simply one among many in the sequel. Her character's personality also really changes. In this movie she's somewhat mature, the muse for a song writer; in the sequel, everything is irreverent and over the top, much more in line with what you'd expect from the title.
Movie Review: Bikini Summer Summary: 4 Stars
Started out a bit slow and I was worried there was no story line but got more interesting. Top movie. Lots of naked bits but not too lame.
Movie Review: Actresses spent more on surgery than the studio on the DVD Summary: 3 Stars
The film is everything I remember from the VHS edition I saw in the early '90s. If you are a fan of this genre, you have probably seen this movie, and understand what made it special, namely, totally gratuitous nude scenes that last for minutes on end. It's often like an extended naked music video.
Lamentably, the DVD appears to have been mastered from a VHS copy, or something similar, because the picture is not nearly as clear or sharp as any standard mainstream DVD release. It's not unwatchable, but it is disappointingly dim. The three star rating is for the DVD, not the film, although, to be fair, if you were to judge this film on everything but the girls, it would be considered terrible.
Movie Review: They don't make them like this anymore Summary: 3 Stars
Sure, this is an awful movie, poor acting, thin plot, full of cliche's and poorly timed jokes, but it is a film of a genre that has really lost it's luster of the past 10 years. I remember this being one of the "UP ALL NIGHT" films on USA network as a teen. It was always 2 mintues of movie, then 5 minutes comercials to make it into the 2 hour time slot. Carefree nudity is present, and the sense of nastalgia makes this worth a watch through once, to laugh at how bad acting can be, and to remember the old days of softcore.
Movie Review: Beach Babes in Bikinis Summary: 2 Stars
Bikini Summer is one hour and twenty-nine minutes and was released on September 19, 1991. The movie is cheesy, the plot does not exist, and the females are cute. Basically you have a bunch of females wearing next to nothing bikinis and in some scenes they are nude. Only in the last half hour do you have any kind of story what so ever. You are better off renting the movie or ask a friend to make a copy for you. Bikini Summer gets a D- and the beach babes get a B+.
