Movie Reviews of Big Eden

Movie Review: Great Date Movie
Summary: 5 Stars

I am certain that activists and movie critics will hate the fact that there is no homophobia in this movie to complain about but welcom to the gay version of "My big fat Greek wedding" except of course for the wedding.
Arye Gross plays a sucessful artist "would it kill filmakers to once in a while give a character a normal profession?" in New York who gets the sad news that his grandfather is ill back in Montanna. he heads home and once there finds out that his old high school crush is now divorced and living in the same town. In addition to a colorful cast of townfold there is a second plotline about a local man who quietly begins to court the main character. However it is done so subtly that the advances are completely missed.
the movie is a treat to watch with likable, realistic looking people and it was a nice surprise to see a gay movie filmed in an area such as Montanna. Well recomended.

Movie Review: Finally... a true gay romance movie!
Summary: 5 Stars

There is so much I liked about this movie that I don't know where to begin. But, I will start with these item: the word 'gay' isn't spoken; HIV/AIDS is not in the movie; gays are NOT presented in a negative manner; and there is no promisciuty. Immediately, all of that seperates this movie from any other gay themed movie.
It is, at once and for all, a romantic gay movie. With a great cast, fantastic settings and filming and a wonderful story this movie is a winner. Arye Gross has come far from his days on 'Ellen' and certainly has developed into a wonderful lead actor.
The plot has been gone over by other reviewers, so I won't be doing that. What I will say is that this movie is unlike any other gay themed movie. It is heartwarming and tearjerking and deserves all the accolades it has recieved. I strongly urge anyone to see this movie if you like romance or really timeless stories.

Movie Review: Spectacular.
Summary: 5 Stars

It's not often that I'm taken by a romance film; I usually find them unrealistic and maudlin. But there was something very different about "Big Eden" that caused me to sit on the edge of my seat, hands clasped together, and await the final sequence of the film.

Perhaps it was the essence of family that the picture carried,or the portrayal of a town in which everyone has his niche. Perhaps the very quiet, subtle performance of Eric Schweig that so contrasts his other roles that I hardly recognized him. Or even the reminders of childhood love long lost but never forgotten -- but something about this film touched me.

This piece is the sort that I can watch parts of in the morning before work and still be smiling over hours later. The very best kind of feel-good movie. I think any person, whether gay or straight, can appreciate the message this film leaves behind when the credits roll.

Movie Review: If Only We all Lived In Big Eden
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw the theatrical release of Big Eden last summer and found the film to be a delightful concept of what the world should/could be like. The people of Big Eden care about each other and take care of one another. The fictional Montana town is a place where people are accepting of difference that exsist between one another and build upon those differneces.

Henry returns home to Big Eden, after living a long period in New York for what he things will be a temporary visit to take care of his ailing grandfather At home he finds himself and the dreams he think will never happen.

The charaters are well developed and the comic pace, mixed with the emotions of its charaters, contiues through the film. A well written plot give a sense of reality to a fictional town in which we all wish we could live.

Anyone who has ever felt different will desire a "Big Eden" of there own.

Movie Review: The best gay themed movie I've ever seen.
Summary: 5 Stars

I've read most of the reviews about this movie here at Amazon.com and agree with most of the information written.I do however disagree with the fact children should not see this film. Sure there are a couple of off color words but the premise of the story is how our world should be and children SHOULD see this movie. The theme of this story is about people loving and caring about each other regardless of the fact that they are different from one an other. And Henry finally allowing the people he cares about in to care for him. The music reminds me of growing up and my mom stacking her old country albums on the stereo and cleaning and singing along. I had a smile on my face and tears in my eyes watching this movie. As said in other reviews, if you are gay, have gay friends, or going on a date, this picture is perfect. The second disc is the icing on the cake. Enjoy.
