Movie Reviews of Big EdenMovie Review: A Big success! Summary: 5 Stars
I wasn't sure what to expect from this film but I've like Arye Gross since he played Adam, the roommate and good friend of Ellen DeGeneres in her self named sitcom. I went with a friend to catch this movie and we both said the same thing leaving the cinema----gotta have that on dvd! Bascially, this story is an old fashioned romance about a young man that returns to his home town to deal with a family matter and comes face to face with the man he loved for years but without reciprocation. The town, with its kind and accepting people, is most definitely a fictional locale but that gives the film an almost fairy tale (no pun intended) like quality. The story is universal---a prodigal son returning, dealing with family and friends and eventually finding the love that he wants, though not necessarily from who he expects. If you like a good romance this is a great pic. Perfect to curl up with that special someone and watch. The dvd also includes extras such as deleted scenes, bonus footage and even recipes from the film. This is a great edition to any dvd collection.
Movie Review: A Beautiful "Eden" Summary: 5 Stars
"Big Eden" is a fable played out in the disguise of gay and straight people getting along all the time...which is why it remains warming and entertaining. It leads us astray from other "gay" films, showing us a little more diversity in the community and it also leaves outthe fear and hate and bigotry. We see the unification of humanity, regardless of our race, ethnicity, sexuality and whatever other differences between us, and it allows to see the ability to strive for the best of ourselves. It shows us that not only do we hope for the best in our own spirits, but also how we hope for the best in the spirits of others and how we help each other acheive that great happiness.
Watch this film. That is all. Just watch this film, whether it be by yourself, with friends, lovers, or family. I guarantee that you will end with a great smile, a bigger, warmer heart, and a new hope that it actually is possible to love one another, no matter what the discrepencies between us as individuals.
"Big Eden" is pure joy and happiness. Gotta love it!!!!
Movie Review: Great but one minus point Summary: 5 Stars
A quick synopsys. If you have not seen the movie perhaps you do not want to read this since I reveal a very imporant part of the story. Henry returns from NY to Big Eden to take care of his ill grandfather. There he met old friends and Dean a classmate in high school that he was secretly in love with. Also another guy Pike he is secretly in love with Henry. One night Henry and Dean kiss each other Dean says that he can't do it.Henry was very understandable and accept his friend wish not to continue. After gradfather pass away Dean talks with Henry and says that he wants to do it and have an affair with him but Henry turns him down. Dean with tears in his eyes asks him not to and to give him a chance, Henry still rejects him with the excuse that he was waiting for years for Dean to respond. (Thats the minus point since a mature and understanding person will not turn down the man he was in love for years. Love does not dissapear like smoke).Next day he discovers that Pike was secretly in love with him. Finaly he falls in love with Pike .
Movie Review: Truly A Wonderful Life...in Montana Summary: 5 Stars
I've come late to this film never having heard of it until I rented it out of the blue. I loved it and have watched it three times and have recommended it to several friends who have all loved it, too. For those reviewers that gave the film 2 stars, the same theme seems to play over and over: They didn't like the "fantasy" of a town that encouraged the gay characters to find happiness, and/or they didn't like the fact that the savvy filmaker/writer didn't spell things out by treating his audience like (drum roll please) adults. I'm sure those people that didn't get the storyline (one called it confusing) are the type of people that need everything spelled out for them. If so, then this film is not for those type of people. If you want to use your brain and your imagination, relax a little bit, and put yourself in the place of the film characters (which any good film achieves..."Wizard of Oz" anyone?) then this film will be a treat and a half. My hat's off to Mr. Bezucha. Thank you for this wonderful film that I now have on DVD.
Movie Review: One of my favorite movies! Summary: 5 Stars
Big Eden is a wonderful movie about unconditional love, acceptance, and the small town atmosphere that all good people hope will be a reality someday. I found the music especially compelling and even used the wonderful Stephen Foster song, "Linger in Blissful Repose" in a funeral I officiated. The cinematography is especially good with careful thought given to angles and perspectives. The scenery makes you want to at least visit, if not move to Montana. Arye Gross does a great job conveying his character's inner conflicts and emotions as he struggles to move past his boyhood crush and embrace an adult romantic relationship. Eric Schweig's subtlety is amazing as he shows so many different emotions through his eyes and facial expressions, often saying very little. Tim DeKay does an outstanding job showing his deep feelings for his friend that he cannot translate into romantic feelings even though he tries. Louise Fletcher, George Coe, O'Neal Compton, and Nan Martin's acting is the icing on the cake of a great film.
