Movie Reviews of Beyond the LawMovie Review: Based on a true story Summary: 4 Stars
Charlie Sheen plays a law enforcement officer that goes undercover in order to infiltrate a notorious motorcycle gang. His character has a harder time keeping his real life and undercover life separate because of some legitimate psychological baggage her carries around from childhood. You can see where his character seems to forget he is a cop and goes too far at times. This takes him to close to the edge where he realizes he has to come out or he may never re-gain his normal life.
Michael Madsen does a fantastic job as being the leader of the motorcycle club. Even though you know he is the leader of this dangerous gang of felons and the worse of them all. He and the director give his character an edge that almost makes him likable. Showing that evil does have a seductive side.
This film is based on a true story of Police Officer Dan Saxon who went undercover for two and half years in order to make his case. It resulted in 498 arrest and 497 convictions. Though the screenwriters have taken liberties with some embellishment, it is a pretty accurate peak inside a Motorcycle clubs life in the mid seventies.
Movie Review: Another 4-Star Movie for Guys Who Like Movies... Summary: 4 Stars
Okay, this role isn't WALL STREET or PLATOON, but Charlie Sheen kicks butt in this film about a screwed up cop who goes undercover with a bike gang. Sound familiar? It should, as this genre has been made a hundred times. This movie, however, is one of the best. And since it was based (very) loosely on a true story then that much the better.
My favorite actor in the film, though, is a thoroughly bad-assed Michael Madsen as the antagonist. He spews perfect timing as the leader of the biker gang.
Additionally, Leon Rippy does a great job as sidekick "Virgil", who is probably the most believable character in the film. Also, Dennis Burkley (a wonderful bit actor that will surely be recognized) is perfectly cast as "Oatmeal". Lastly, it is always good to have Rip Torn in any movie, lending heavyweight acting to any role.
Simply, this is a keeper and a must see. Hey, I'm a just a guy...
Movie Review: Good True Story Summary: 4 Stars
This is a good movie based on a true story. Charlie sheen is thrown into an undercover situation with very little training - two people could blow his cover at any time. Some might find the bike-building scene as a distraction, but I liked it. I think the portrait of some of the nuances of biker groups was rich in detail. Only complaint is that the biker "babes" in the movie were not accurate. Come on we all know biker babes are hot (my Mom is a biker babe) but the ones in the movie were - let's say, "lacking". Another non-intended comic point was the redneck bar scene. Charlie storms into a bar filled with "the meanest rednecks you ever seen" and they are all wearing pressed oxfords and loafers. But maybe that's the way rednecks dress in AZ? Charlie plays this multi-dimensional character very well. Overall, a good story well told.
Movie Review: decent movie based on a true story Summary: 4 Stars
This is probably the best biker gang-action movie. That's not saying a whole lot because most biker movies are kind of stupid. This one is a true story so it kind of makes this one more interesting. Michael Madsen is one of my favorite actors and he makes this movie worth watching as the leader of the biker gang. Dennis Berkley fits in perfect as one of the gang members. I wasn't too impressed with Charlie Sheen, though. His acting ability ranges somewhere between Erik Estrada and a turkey baster. He's just not my idea of an action hero. They should have got someone like William Forsythe to play the part of the undercover guy. He played a good biker gang member in Stone Cold. Beyond the Law is worth two hours of your time if you can overlook Charlie's bad acting and cheesey dialog.
Movie Review: Great Biker Flick Summary: 4 Stars
I taped this movie from HBO in the late 90's, I must of watched this flick 6 or 7 times,, I'm a biker myself and I thought Charlie Sheen did a great job. This is a true story of a cop that goes undercover in a biker gang. I think he rode with them for two years before they made the big bust and took them all down. Charlie has a great knack of taking a nervous character and turning him into a convincing badass. This movie shows his entire transformation, from street cop to deep under cover biker. This film shows the friendships you make in a biker gang, and the loyalty that you betray as you make your reports to your superiors. Overall it's a pretty good beer drinking wild ride of a movie.
