Movie Reviews of Berkeley Square

Movie Review: Bygone days in jolly old England
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a delightful miniseries. It depicts the class distinction between the haves and the have-nots and how defined the caste system was back in those days. The experiences of the Nanny and other servants in the household was dependent on the degree of compassion, or lack of it, shown by the family for whom they worked. This series does an excellent job of depicting this. It also illustrates the disassociated attitude of most parents towards their children, and the dependence of them upon their Nanny for love and security. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys the days of yore in jolly old England.

Movie Review: Once again, the British know how to do mini-series
Summary: 5 Stars

_Berkeley Square_ is a perfect example of why I enjoy BBC productions so much. I bought this based solely on the recommendations of other reviewers, and am I glad. The characters are not only wonderful, but the acting is so top-rate that you connect with these young woman and the people in there lives. Even the "villians" are not completely unsympathic. The filming itself is wonderful for capturing the time period. A must own for anyone who values high quality drama and interesting stories. One warning: Be prepared to spend a day with this series. Once you start it, you will want to watch every episode.

Movie Review: Excellent BBC Show- would not expect anything less
Summary: 5 Stars

I was too young to really appreciate the show Upstairs Downstairs but understand that Berkeley Square was somewhat similar in the premise. Our local library has the set of the three dvd's which is where I happened to pick up the first one and was absolutely mesmerized on the story lines of three nannies and their employers! I could not stop watching and found it excellent. Would I expect anything less of the BBC?! After reading the main review I too am astounded that it did not continue and only 10 episodes were made. Be that as it may, it is truely a wonderful dvd to watch again and again!

Movie Review: Loved it!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this from recommendation from Amazon through a Gold offer and was thinking it sounded okay but not knowing what to expect. It is 10 episodes long and goes for about 8.5 hours. Well, it was awesome. Couldn't turn it off. Every free moment, had to find out what happened next. Other people have already talked about the characters so won't say them again but in essence the story is based on the lives of three nannies and the rich children's families they look after in Berkeley Square. Wish there was more to come. Come on BBC. Bring us more. There are plenty of fans here.

Movie Review: The British get it right yet again!
Summary: 5 Stars

Simply terrific! If you enjoy this, try "The Grand", also wonderful and my all time favorite, "Brideshead Revisited". I just received Berkeley Square and after watching it, I can't wait for the next in the series (yes, there is talk of a second part to help with all of those unaswered questions at the end).

I worked as a nanny in London in 1981...my how things have changed...and yet, there were still similarities. This was a joy to watch!
