Movie Reviews of Bent

Movie Review: Bent...but not broken.
Summary: 5 Stars

WOW. What an amazing story. Yes, we've all seen stories about Nazi Germany...and most have been very well done. Similar to "The Pianist," this story follows the life of one man as he's rounded up for a concentration camp. This story provides a unique twist on the treatment of those deemed unworthy in the eyes of the Nazi regime -- not because he's Jewish, but because he's gay. If anyone's ever wondered where the pink triangle became a symbol of the gay community, you'll find it here.

I won't go into details about the story because you can read that in the description. However, I will say that this was a VERY well made movie and finally captures a new side of the Nazi terrorism -- the plight of gays. Another plus is that the movie is story-driven rather than sex-driven like many gay movies. You'll actually get to know the characters and appreciate them for who they are...not who they do. Therefore, I highly recommend this movie for gay and straight viewers.

Movie Review: Hard to watch... but brilliantly moving and provoking
Summary: 5 Stars

I still don't know all what to say about this movie, since I only just saw it a couple days ago and its still simmering in my mind. But I do know it had a big impact on me. The way it was made, the way it showed you this world they lived in and how it was so quickly taken away. The movie isn't perfect, but for some reason I wouldn't change a thing. McJagger is dead on as Greta/George, and Clive Owen is amazing. Actually all performances in this film were excellent. And the title "Bent" is a word that means homosexual (as opposed to "straight"), and certainly not referring to the shape of the main character's penis as was stated in a previous review. I don't know where they got that idea. the movie is hardly so shallow as to focus on such an insignificant thing as the man's penis when the emotional scope of the film is simply epic. 5 stars. see it if you can handle holocaust 'downers'

Movie Review: An exceptionally well cast movie
Summary: 5 Stars

I have read some of the lengthier reviews for Bent, and I see they contain a galaxy of spoilers. I will just say that this English/Japanese production is one of the most powerful films I have seen - the casting is wonderful - Clive Owen is a revelation and Lothaire Bluteau - the French Canadian actor who starred in Jesus of Montreal gives a heart rending performance. As others have noted, the theatrical roots of this story are evident - but this is no bad thing. I think the production is excellent - from the scenes of decadent (pre-) war Berlin, to the atrocities committed on the train to Dachau to the harrowing scenes at the concentration camp itself. This is a film you will want to watch more than once - which is an extraordinary achievement given its confronting nature.

Movie Review: Beautifully and Brilliantly,Bent !
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an extremely powerful and tragic movie focusing on the prosecution of the gays during the nazi era. More specifically it focuses on the coming of age of the protagonist, played by protean talent, Clive Owen and shows clearly how love could transcend the physical. The pivotal scene in which they speak with each other in a rather animated way and experiencing the physical sensations of intimacy without touching each other is quite a surprise and brilliantly poetic. The love that results from the relationship provides the motivation for the final scene of the movie - the courage to be who one really is and to be able to finally feel that love could MOVE! I would consider this movie to be a gay classic. Brilliant!!

Movie Review: Brokeback Holocaust
Summary: 5 Stars

"Bent" is one of the most depressing films I have ever watched. If your not in a good mood, don't look at this movie.
The acting is brilliant, but for most of the film your watching rocks being moved from one pile to another, then back to the original pile, but it has to be in the story.
The train sceen is alfuw,if this really happened, these inhuman evil German Hitler animals have to be burning in hell forever.
Clive Owen's is fantastic, along with everyone else, including Mick Jagger.
Its been 24 hours since I've seen "Bent ,"and its still haunting me.This is a love story between 2 guys during the Holocaust who never touch or kiss, but still have sex together.
