Movie Reviews of BellaMovie Review: I liked it, I really liked it Summary: 5 Stars
The movie was filled with many wonderfully nuanced scenes of people enjoying and resisting and finding each other. They are together in a restaurant kitchen, riding subways, walking on sidewalks. They are humans finding a way to be in a layered human relationship. Even the ending, which was sweet in a way, is multi-layered. And so the Man and Woman struggle and Be with each other come out of it with more than when they entered. And mid-town Manhattan is a bright sunny day; New York is beautiful, fragrant; Long Island neighborhood and home is delightful; and the Atlantic Ocean beach is crisp with a warm breeze. Both main actors Eduardo Verástegui and Tammy Blanchard are so compelling to watch, each so beautiful. It's a fairy tale. I own the DVD and am definately keeping it.
Movie Review: A poignant, masterful film Summary: 5 Stars
Bella is one of the better films I've seen this year. It has that ellusive mix of visual beauty, a unique voice, and masterful acting and character development that makes a movie both intellectually and emotionally engaging.
The subject is also close to my heart and life-affirming - a good family movie for a those with teenage children (and above)
Some of my friends who watched it were a bit disturbed by the obtuse flashback (or flash-forward) in the middle of the film, but I felt it had just the right level of ambiguity to keep the end of the film a surprise.
But then, I like ambiguity in films.
Wonderful, redemptive movie I highly recommend to those who want to own a library of thought-provoking and culturally inclusive movies.
Movie Review: GREAT MOVIE THAT WON'T DISAPPOINT! Summary: 5 Stars
Just thought I'd add my 2 cents to the other great reviewers here who convinced me to watch this sweet film.
not only am I left with good feelings after the movie, but I plan to watch again soon. Why? Despite a little mystery regarding the timeline of the story (it DOES take a moment to figure out the sequence of events), it was fully worth the small effort. Also I was afraid it would be one of those touchy-feely movies that leave you feeling sad all over.... nope. It was actually uplifting- though I couldn't put my finger on why. IF it had had fewer superb actors, dialogue exchanges, and happy endings.... then I might have decided differently. But don't be afraid to try it out.
Great movie that won't disappoint.
Movie Review: LIFE is special Summary: 5 Stars
Best movie I have seen in many years. This film is much more than a movie. It will remain with you as it did with me beyond watching it. I suggest this movie for all. Unlike much of what is shown throughout the "mainstream" this film dares to go where few if not any films go. That's right! It challenges you, the watcher to see responsibility, to think about life and not just life in general, but the LIFE a baby, a child and yes an unborn baby! The characters and story are so remarkable that it could be one of us and all of us. It reminds us that we are special with tough decisions to make in life and how other people affect us. This movie really moved me. I hope there are more like this to find.
Movie Review: Delightful movie Summary: 5 Stars
I watched this movie for the first time last night- what a wonderful movie. It pleases on all levels - beautiful actors, beautiful shots of food in the restaurant, and a down-to-earth story. Both Tammy and Jose have personal secrets they are dealing with as best they can - she a pregnancy and he an event from his past. When Nina is fired by Jose's brother Manny, the two of them end up spending the day together and what a day it is. This film is filled with many beautiful warm, touching moments. You come away from this film feeling warm and happy - and with the knowledge that good basic movies built on the premise of love, redemption and friendship are still being made. Bravo Bella!
