Movie Reviews of Bella

Movie Review: Life Can Change in an Instant
Summary: 5 Stars

Bella is one of those non-Hollywood, non-blockbuster films that beautifully tells a story about faith, love, life and family. This film is better than movies with $100 million dollar budgets. The lead roles are played by Eduardo Verastegui & Tammy Blanchard. They are simply magnificent. It is about two very broken people who find a way to help mend each other. This film has been described as "a love story without romance." There is certainly chemistry between the two main characters, but this movie is more about caring with love, for another person than a typical Hollywood love story. Bella makes us think about our own lives and how events have impacted us. The film inspires hope, makes us laugh and cry. I highly recommend this film. Part of me believed that films like this just weren't made anymore. In a way, Bella is a "throw-back" to the great films from the 40's and 50's. I am so glad that someone is making films again that tell a beautiful story, so very well.

Movie Review: A sign of hope in a cynical age
Summary: 5 Stars

You can tell much about the character of a person, a community, or a culture by the stories that they tell. Our culture is swimming in stories of violence, crime, bizarre sexual fetishes, and crude humor. How refreshing it is to see a story that speaks to both the reality of life and the redemption that is possible when we listen to our true inner selves and draw upon the deep wellsprings of strength found in strong family values and the love that binds them together. Some people may claim that this is a trite and unrealistic movie. I say that it is a sign of hope in a cynical age.

Parents should watch this with their children and use it as a basis for discussion for everything from sexuality to defensive driving. Two thumbs way up.

A word of caution. Bitter and cynical viewers may not enjoy this work unless they can watch it with an open mind.

Movie Review: Heart-touching LOVE
Summary: 5 Stars

When I see the headline, True Love go Beyond Romance.

Naturally, I am curious what constitute a "true love"?

I rent and pop in the dvd player. Through this plot and its climax. I understood how this is a true love. It is not about falling in love or the romancing itself or even marriage. It is the love itself that the people who contribute to the society.

Through this film, it is so realistic and it will enticed you as the film melting your ice-hardening heart into a warm and tender heart.

I believe this film will encourage us to take a good look at ourselves and others. Then we will ask ourselves, "How can we make Earth a better place?" "How can I be a better person?" "What can I do to make a difference in one's life?"

Watch the film, share it, and you will see a positive change in our society.

Movie Review: Refreshing...
Summary: 5 Stars

BELLA is a well-suited title for this tender story about a day in the life two New Yorkers. It's a romantic drama that manages to be moving, funny, heartbreaking, and uplifting without straying down the same clichéd path we've all been a hundred times before. Eduardo Verástegui and Manny Perez both turn out strong performances, and Tammy Blanchard delivers a compelling, emotionally honest portrayal of a young woman dealing with an unexpected crisis. First-time director Alejandro Monteverde succeeds in showing audiences the selfless side of love too often neglected by Hollywood, and BELLA's poignant themes of redemption and forgiveness stay with you long after the credits roll. It's hard to say much more without giving away major plot lines, but BELLA is a movie you definitely don't want to miss.

Movie Review: Inspiring and real characters...Great mix in a movie
Summary: 5 Stars

Just watched Bella for the second time. It is an excellent film with a mix of central characters dealing with real-life problems. The various conflicts came to light in unconventional ways (some through flashbacks) which kept my interest. By the conclusion of the story, their decisions demonstrate love and real compassion. I was struck by the profound impact the characters had on each other.

On a side note, Bella's writers and actors stated that they were delibrately attempting to combat years of Hollywood's stereotyping of Latinos. The central family in the movie(Puerto Rican/Mexican) comes across as intelligent, hardworking, giving, dedicated to each other, and lots of fun. Congratulations on a job well done!

Buy this movie...you'll want to lend it out to others.
