Movie Reviews of BedazzledMovie Review: Fabulous/One of the best comedies ever! Summary: 5 Stars
I have seen this movie well over forty times and the last time was as funny as the first. There's no other movie I can say that about. It is a true classic with no extraneous words, moments, or scenes. Infinitely far above most of the comic movies now being released. I await the remake with some trepedation, in spite of being a Brendan Frazer fan; it would take a miracle to equal, much less surpass Moore & Cooks writing and performances in the original. I can only hope that the remake will inspire the rerelease of this excellent film on video and dvd. This one should never be unavailable!
Movie Review: Great, love this version Summary: 5 Stars
For my money this original version is easily better than the later re-make. Not to say the re-make didn't have some fun moments but it was more of a version for children, loud and ADD paced with the sometimes funny Brendan Fraser doing his best Jim Carrey.
Peter Cook and Dudley Moore are sublimely funny, not many belly laughs in this version but lots of humorous jibes at society and all of it's ills, especially religion, god and the devil. Despite it's having been made in the swinging 60's, this movie is surprisingly funny and relevant today.
Movie Review: At last! Summary: 5 Stars
One of my top ten films of all time is finally becoming available! I first saw it in a high school religion class! Do not judge it on the horrible remake. I find Elizabeth Hurley in a leather catsuit as appealing as the next person, but there that version stopped. The original offers the mind-bending humore of Cook and Moore, the way they explored it in the Bed Sitting Room, but without the post-apocolyptic bleakness. See this film immediately! I wore out my old VHS copy showing it to people who had never heard of it. Funny, funny, funny!
Movie Review: Classic Comedy Summary: 5 Stars
Although not a Dudley Moore fan, this performance is of a great actor and not the later repeatative character in his more recent films. Mothers always warn to never make a deal with the devil; but this movie illustrates how everyone else can benefit from the situational humor created by such deals. This film has humor from quite subtle to outrageous. I still am amused by the same antics and many that I've missed in prior viewings. This is one of the few tapes I still watch. It is the only one shelved on my DVD rack.
Movie Review: Dazzling Summary: 5 Stars
I suppose that it was inevitable that a film as good as this would be remade, and it's equally inevitable that the remake will be but a pale and insipid shadow of a sparkling, witty, hilarious original. The basic plot has been addressed elsewhere on this page, but what hasn't been pointed out is that behind the belly-laughs some deep philosophical issues are examined, and sacred cows lampooned. Most certainly, a film which can be enjoyed again and again, and in which more is discovered at each viewing.
