Movie Reviews of Because I Said So (Widescreen Edition)Movie Review: Good Performance/Problem Role Summary: 3 StarsThe Art of Storytelling: How To Write A Story....Any Story
Shadow Watcher
Nobody Drowns in Mineral Lake
When it comes to playing comedy, few actresses are as adept as Diane Keaton, but the problem with this film is that her character is so annoying during the first part of the picture that, once she begins to soften and show her human side in the second half, it's still hard to warm up to her.
Diane plays the meddling, long-widowed mother of three daughters, two of whom are married. Worried that her youngest (Mandy Moore) might wind up a spinster, she places an ad on a singles site and begins interviewing prospective husbands for the girl. When she meets the one she thinks is "Mr. Right," (Tom Everett Scott), she arranges for him to meet the totally unaware Mandy.
Mandy, however, has met her own "Mr. Right," (Gabriel Macht), who Diane feels is totally unsuitable as a prospective son-in-law. Now, Mandy's dilemma is that she likes both guys, so which one should she choose?
Michael Lehmann directed this amusing romantic comedy, which co-stars Stephen Collins as Macht's father and the man who eventually sets Diane straight.

Movie Review: Mildly enteraining... Summary: 2 Stars2.5 stars. I liked the movie a little more than I expected, but the script sort of fell apart. I'm not a big Diane Keaton fan, her voice rides my nerves and for the last couple of decades she's played the same character over and over. I do like movies that touch on the complicated relationships between mothers and daughters. They always make for great drama. This one was just a little too pat and uninspired. Still, it was mildly entertaining.
Movie Review: ... and ? - For the Great Outfits! Summary: 3 StarsAhhh another Mandy Moore movie under my belt! Out of all of her movies, for me this one comes in third (if I had to rank her movies) behind Saved and A Walk to Remember (yea I know, it wasn't that good, but I have to admit, it got me going at the end). Diane Keaton, although a little spazzy in this movie, also adds to the satisfactory movie that it is.
Mandy Moore plays Milly, a 20 something year old caterer with men trouble. Her mother, Daphne (Diane Keaton), an invasive, pushy mother decides that she is going to find the right man for Milly. Through an online dating service, Daphne meets up with the different men who answered the ad, and chooses her idea of the perfect man for Milly. She then secretly sets them up to "bump into one another", making the young man promise not to give away how they came to meet. While another man who was denied by Daphne (for not being stable enough to suit her daughter), begins to pursue Milly himself. Milly continues dating these two men, finding herself in the middle of what she wants, and what her mother wants for her love life.
The story is cute, and the acting is pretty good. Unfortunately, Diane Keaton gets annoying as the film continues, and Tom Everett Scott (who plays Jason - Mom's choice of the perfect boyfriend) is one awful actor all together. So I would give it a 3, as an OK movie for rental when you are bored. BUT, being a girl with a love for great style, I will add ? a star for the great outfits each of the women (Milly, Daphne, and Milly's two sisters) wear throughout the movie. Hey, they gave me some good ideas to spice up my wardrobe!
Movie Review: One Star-Spoilers Follow Summary: 1 StarsIt could have been a good movie. It had a good cast Diane Keaton, Mandy Moore, Lauren Graham and Stephen Collins about a domineering mother and her daughters specifically her youngest daughter Mandy Moore who's saddled with the horrible name...Millie who's basically a pushover it was classifed as a chick flict or a romantic comedy. Yet it was awful. The lenghts that the mother goes to in order find a husband she thinks is perfect for her daughter was horrible. Really on-line dating and screening dates to find the perfect man? That's a really horrible thing to do. Unfortunately, any sympathy you would have for Millie goes out the window as she dates two guys at same time, sleeping with both guys and even getting engaged with one while thinking about moving in with the other. I'm suppose to be rooting for Millie because she's cute and her mother's a pain? I don't think so. If you don't think that's painful enough all of the sexual jokes are. Skip this movie believe I wish I had.
Movie Review: What a Shame Summary: 1 StarsI bought the movie because Lauren Graham was in it and I knew what a great comedian and singer she is. Instead I got Diane Keaton and Mandy Moore, neither of which gave a very stellar performance.
I hope in the not too distant future Lauren Graham will be STARRING in some good movies.
