Movie Review: A human family
Summary: 4 Stars

After watching what seemed like an endless number of g-d awfully depressing movies--I won't name them here but movies with dead, bleeding dogs, savaged humans, teenage studs trying to do two virgins a day--it was nice to see a wholesome movie: a gay-Hispanic-HIV+ dentist accidentally becoming guardian for the son of his vacationing-then-incarcerated-aging-hippie sister.

Wholesome, not simple. Wholesome because of the generous amount of love--yes, some between chubby, hairy gay men--shown in the movie. There are problems; there is intrigue, but there is always love. And, after viewing so many loveless films, this film was a particular treat.

Summary of Bear Cub

Pedro (Jos Luis Garca-Prez) is an attractive and homosexual dentist who lives a sexually active lifestyle. He offers to take care of his nine-year-old nephew Bernardo (David Castillo) for two weeks while the child's mother, Pedro's older sister Violeta (Elvira Lindo), goes off to India with her latest "hippie" boyfriend. Pedro modifies his sexual behavior but quickly finds out that Bernardo is extremely comfortable and mature in his attitude towards life. When Violeta suddenly becomes detained in India, Pedro finds himself the boy's caretaker and must face the challenges of raising a child.
