Movie Reviews of BattlegroundMovie Review: Good Movie: Who is the Texas Leaguer major art Checkpoint Summary: 5 Stars
I first saw this movie as a double feature along with Go For Broke, another Van Johnson on film. I guess I was about 10, and every Saturday afternoon, during the summer, the Arcade Theater in Baltimore, would have a double feature with cartoons and the Three Stooges ,etc. All for 25 cents if you were under 12 years old.
The thing that I always remembered about it was Holly and his eggs.
I was wondering if anyone knows who played the Major who did not know what a Texas Leaguer was?
I just got a DVD of the movie and have watched it four times recently. as well as Go For Broke.
Movie Review: True Army perspective Summary: 5 Stars
This movie when it was released after the War, was the "Platoon" of it's time. It was not a war propaganda film where everybody was gung ho.
It told a good story of how the soldiers of the time felt and their complaints of the Army.
I saw this film growing up.
Later on in life I was in the back of an Army truck being tossed about and uncomfortable complaining about the Army.
I laughed as I thought about watching this movie. It was all true!
We found a home in the Army!
A classic movie.
Movie Review: A film that lived close to reality Summary: 5 Stars
Battleground A film of tribute to those who fought the famed "Battle of the Bulge" in Belgium. Filmed during the very late 1940s, some of the scenery lacks the hard-nosed realism of that the characters exhibit. It also brought together an amazing group of actors, some in their debut performances. Many of them went on to Oscar-winning careers, and countless films that entertained us for a generation or more.
Movie Review: Best B&W war film! Summary: 5 Stars
Others have given good informational reviews in regard to the story -- it's about The Battle of The Bulge during WWII (I actually had an uncle killed there!). This is, in my opinion, the finest B&W war film ever made. It's realistic and fairly historically accurate, especially regarding the misery that the soldiers endured. Buy it -- it's a fine movie.
Movie Review: BATTLE OF THE BULGE Summary: 5 Stars
Academy Award winning story of the Battle of the Bulge. This story is told from the soldier view, not the Generals'. The grit, the dirt, the cold, the shortages, the dying: it is all here. And excruciatingly well done. Van Johnson is superb, as are the others in an all star cast. GREAT MOVIE MAKING.
