Movie Review: Loved it from the Start
Summary: 5 Stars
The day this show premiered, I woke up early in the morning and started flipping channels. I happened to stumble onto this show about 30 seconds in with no idea what I was watching. It became apparent very quickly that I was watching Batman (and I assumed the Animated Series). As the story continued I became to realize what I was watching: The most original, unexpected cartoon of the last 20 years.
I say that because with Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, etc. (all of whom I love) you know what you are getting are there is little new territory to be explored. However, with Batman Beyond, Paul Dini and Company created something where each week I became genuinely curious as to what was going to happen next.
I hope all of these millions of Americans that are pouring out to see The Dark Knight (an excellent film) give Batman Beyond a chance. I think it is a cartoon that can be enjoyed just as much (if not more) by adults, than children!

Terry McGinnis was just an ordinary teenager...until his father was mysteriously murdered. Suspecting foul play at his father's company Wayne/Powers Corporation Terry meets Bruce Wayne and learns a secret identity hidden for decades. Now too old to battle injustice Wayne refuses to help. So Terry does what any brash young kid would do: steal the Batsuit and take matters into his own hands! Vowing to avenge his father's death Terry dons the high-tech suit tricked out with jetpacks a supersensitive microphone and even camouflage capabilities in search of his father's assassin. High school kid Terry McGinnis's run-in with a biker gang called the Jokers leads to a chance encounter with a rich recluse named Bruce Wayne. McGinnis soon discovers that 20 years ago Wayne was Batman, but has since retired from active duty. Not getting any help from Wayne, McGinnis swipes the Bat suit--now tricked-up with enhanced strength, flight capability, and nifty gadgets--and sets out to right a wrong perpetrated by his father's former business partner, Derek Powers. Subsequent adventures in the 13-episode season deal with some teen hang-ups as well as supervillains, who are mostly new except for Bane and Mr. Freeze. Excellent voice work is by Will Friedle (McGinnis), Kevin Conroy (continuing his role from Batman: The Animated Series), Stockard Channing (as Commissioner Barbara Gordon), and guest stars including Star Trek's George Takei. --David Horiuchi
