Movie Reviews of Bambi II

Movie Review: The Best Disney Sequel I Have Seen
Summary: 5 Stars

Like several other reviewers, I was reluctant to purchase this because some of the other Disney sequels had been so bad and had the same unending story: young independent child butts heads with older parent or authority figure. ZZZZ. What a surprise then to see it and realize what a stunning sequel this is. While it cannot quite match the poetry of the original and a couple of the songs are just ho-hum, the backgrounds are gorgeously drawn--the snow scenes at the beginning are lovely--the characters are engaging, and the opening song "There is Life" is beautiful. The Great Prince's growing affection for his son is very well done and there are some exciting sequences. And thankfully Thumper's pesty little sisters were just that, and not brainless goons like they made Scamp's sisters. I also applaud the scriptwriters who actually seem to have READ THE BOOK and, while still having too many cute Thumper and Flower sequences, did incorporate some parts into the movie: Ronno, the deer call (although in the book it was "Faline" calling Bambi when he was older, not his "Mother"), and the young doe, who I believe in the book actually is caught by the dogs. Highly recommended.

Movie Review: Dare I say? Better than the original!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a hard sell because I'm such a fan of Salten's original novel (just became a proud owner of a first edition). I've always been a bit disdainful of the Disney effort, but Disney being Disney, they did an okay job on the first film in 1942. But this sequel...my, my, what a joy! I thoroughly enjoyed it, even cried a little at the scene where Bambi is reunited with his mother. I really have never liked Thumper or Flower because they were added to Salten's work and were put there for the cute factor only. But I really enjoyed them in this one...especially Thumper. I was gratified to see another original character from the book (Ronno...another deer in Salten's original book, although if I remember correctly, Ronno started out being an okay kinda "guy" and only later became a bully to Bambi during rutting season). No one has yet mentioned Bambi's cute little bleats during the "grrrr!" segments...really wonderful! Next up, I hope, will be Salten's sequel to Bambi - "Bambi's Children" - which focuses on his fawns, Geno and Guri. I did like Bambi II better the original. It's still not Salten, but it's the next best thing.

Movie Review: WOW!
Summary: 5 Stars

Bambi (I) is one of my 2 favorite Disney movies (along with Fantasia --go figure!), but I ended-up liking Bambi II even better than the original! --This movie can stand on its own, even though it's set during the time between the death of Bambi's mother, when he follows the Great Prince of the Forest, to when Bambi courts --and wins-- Filene. The artwork is superb, the storyline excellent, the characters' development fuller, and the sequencing flawless. Here, Bambi grows up, trying to gain the approval of his aloof Great Prince-daddy, and ends-up gaining his respect as well. A Word of Warning however: while the movie generally is light and sweetness, there is a tense and dark sequence where Bambi and Filene are chased by a pack of Man's Dogs which can be scary for the very young-uns --but it's conclusion became a major subject of "wow!" afterwards --as did the whole movie!

Movie Review: A Great "Midquel"
Summary: 5 Stars

To all those people saying it ended to abruptly it is a midquel kind of weird but it is the story within the story. Bambi 2 is a great continuation of Bambi. It is great to see what happened between Bambi And The Great Prince. Disney always does quality family entertainment and this is a very enjoyable film for the whole family. All Bmbi's friends are back as well as some new friends and foes.

Bambi's father is very serious and firm but he is trying to teach bambi the coldness of the world and thsi was just a great film and is only available for a very limited time 70 days from this past Tuesday. Disney decided to pull it around the 70th anniversary of Walt's original Bambi idea. Do not forget teh 2-disc edition of Bambi will also disappear when Bambi II goes into the vault. If you love Disney films you want to get this one while they last its a very good story.
