Movie Reviews of Bah, Humduck! A Looney Tunes Christmas

Movie Review: Underwhelming
Summary: 2 Stars

When you've got a mere 46 minutes to tell a highly condensed version of a classic Xmas story then it's obviously a good idea to cram as much story in there are possible and try your hardest to create a cosy, Xmas atmosphere. There's not much of that to be had in Bah Humduck! Cartoon writers have been milking the Christmas Carol goat for years. Modern spins on the story rarely work (Scrooged being a meta-fictional exception) and Bah Humduck distances itself from the source material so much that it is barely recognizable. Daffy stars as the boss of a huge department store who loves exploiting people in order to make many Xmas dollars. The Ebeneezer Scrooge story is shoehorned into this setting, but the colour schemes are far too high key and bright to evoke a true Xmas feel. Almost the entire feature is set inside this bland environment.

Far too much time is given to hijinks utterly void of comic timing. The first 11 minutes, which establish Daffy as a bad boss, are really nothing but him flying across the screen and smashing into various things. It's not funny in the slightest.

I feel that the people who made this were only interested in churning out a quick, easy product and had no interest in making it something special. A Charlie Brown Christmas [Blu-ray] was half the length and has been consistently popular for well over forty years. Bah Humduck will disappear without a trace.

Summary of Bah, Humduck! A Looney Tunes Christmas

In a hilarious take on the holiday classic, "A Christmas Carol," "A Looney Tunes Christmas" follows the exploits of Daffy Duck, the "Scrooge-like" proprietor of the "Lucky Duck" mega-mart. To take financial advantage of last minute shoppers, Daffy demands that his employees, including his long suffering manager, Porky Pig, work on Christmas Day instead of spending the holiday with their families. Its up to Bugs Bunny and the ghosts of Christmas past (Tweety and Granny), present (Yosemite Sam) and future (Taz) to make sure that Daffy realizes the error of his ways and saves Christmas for the Looney Tunes gang
Greed and ill-will are the pervading sentiments of the holiday season in this Looney Tunes version of the Charles Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol. Daffy Duck stars as the greedy proprietor of the Lucky Duck mega-mart and all he can think about is the money to be made during the holiday season. Disgruntled employees like Assistant Manager Porky Pig, Marvin Martian, Speedy Gonzales, and Elmer Fudd plead to Daffy Duck for small concessions like a day off on Christmas and discounted toys, but Daffy is relentless in his pursuit of the almighty dollar. It's up to last minute shopper Bugs Bunny; the ghosts of Christmases past (Tweety and Granny), present (Yosemite Sam) and future (Taz); and Porky Pig's young daughter Priscilla to make Daffy see the error of his ways and discover the true meaning of Christmas. This 44-minute animated program features jazzy arrangements of classic Christmas tunes, a host of favorite Looney Tunes characters, and an abundance of slapstick comedy and fast-paced action.
